Investigatory Project
Abstract of the study
The study was entitled Combined solution of Garlic (Allium Sativum) and Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus). Specifically, sought to find out how these two solutions (lemongrass and garlic) can effectively kill mosquitoes. It aimed at looking for an organic and safe measure in treating the abundance of mosquitoes. Ideally, the researcher’s study promotes a tandem between science and creation’s conservation. In this project we can do this at our own houses, it is cheaper and it is also eco friendly product. In the Philippines we are experiencing diseases like dengue. As we all know dengue is a deadly disease, we can contribute a little help to kill those mosquitoes, in that way we will not harm our mother earth.
The materials composing the solution were 40 mL of the combines solution of Lemongrass and Garlic. The set up was composed of experimental and control group. The experimental group was being sprayed using a specific commercial pesticide. On the other hand, the control group was being sprayed using the organic mosquito killer. Data were collected to gather relevant information.
In the light of the findings of the study, it was found out that the solution composing of 40 mL solution of Garlic and Lemongrass extract can kill mosquitoes in a short span of time compared with the commercial one. The study hypothesized that the combined solution of Garlic (Allium sativum) and Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus) is more likely effective than commercial product on mosquitoes in terms of the number of mosquitoes that will die.

Our group observed that many people especially children are prone in getting sickness from mosquitoes and may suffer sickness like Dengue and Malaria that may lead to death. Our group also observed that we can create a mosquito trapper and also a mosquito killer using recycled and improvised materials. In this, we can save more money and it is safer to use than mosquito killer lamps, insect killer racket, mosquito coil, mosquito sprays and other mosquito or insect killers that are not safe with children. Our idea of a mosquito trapper using sugar and yeast may be dirty and unpleasant to see in our front yards, but as mentioned, it is safe and is cheap. It is also easy to create it and we can save more of our money instead of buying electric mosquito or insect killer devices.…

Abstract. Mosquitoes have pestered land and vertebrates for millions of years. Commercial insecticides available today, however, are not environment-friendly and may be expensive. This Study aimed to develop an environment-friendly, safe, effective, and cheap mosquito repellant. Pinus insularis (pine cones) and Salix babylonica (weeping willow) leaves were gathered from different places. A solution was extracted, collected and distilled to separate the extract from the solvent. A mixture with rations of 1:1.5 and 1:25 weeping willow leaves and pine cone extracts prepared. The mixture was then tested on wrigglers and adult mosquitoes. The chi-square test was used to determine if there was an association between the death of the wrigglers and mosquitoes and the presence of the repellant. The statistical test showed that the prepared mosquito repellant was not effective.…

Garlic (Allium sativum) and Chilli (Capsicum annuum) are usually seen in the kitchen. They are both used in cooking as condiments. According to the past research of the researchers, Allium sativum is effective as a pesticide while Capsicum annuum is one best ingredient in making a mosquito killer. And because of this idea, the researchers planned to combine the two to conduct a cockroach repellent since cockroaches are the most common household pests. Cockroaches have acrid odor that may permeate item with which they come in contact and transmit bacteria responsible for diseases in humans. Having many cockroaches at home is really unsafe. The researchers want to help the community to prevent contaminated food done by cockroaches in just a simple way, and that is conducting a cockroach repellent.…

Citronella grass has been serving from years as a mosquito repellent in the field of ancient and modern medicine. Commercially available mosquito repellents are chemical based and disastrous to human health. An attempt has been made to prepare a 100% herbal product based on Citronella leaf remains which is left out and of no use after steam distillation. It is cheap, effective and environment friendly. It is a first and preliminary work based on formulating and evaluating herbal mosquito repellent cakes using natural binders such as neem powder, potato starch, corn starch, coconut shell powder, wood powder and cow dung. The efficacy of prepared citronella leaf cakes were evaluated on three different parameters such as flammability, burning time and mosquito repellency test. Also, the cakes were sprayed with different concentrations of Citronella oil. Based on the results obtained from these parameters, the residual percentage of each combination of cakes was calculated and it suggested that Neem…
