“Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later” ­Og Mandino. Education is an investment in the future, as Og Mandino states, you can harvest it at anytime. This is exactly how education should be looked at, a smart investment. The major I am working towards is general studies. Over the last year and a half I have changed my focus of studies twice, and have decided a general studies degree is the most beneficial for my future. By choosing this type of degree it will leave more options when choosing a bachelor degree program upon my transfer to a four year University.
The current economy is going to be the biggest challenge when choosing the right major. What is in high demand now, may not be when it is my time to jump in the field of my degree. After all there will be a hefty bill attached to my final degree. Therefore I will have to rely on all the investments I made during my two and four year college careers. All of the free electives I have taking are business oriented, so I will learn as much as I can about business. This is necessary to me because I will own my own business in the near future.
If you choose a field you are passionate about that is helpful in motivating you to get all your required classes complete in a timely fashion. My personal goal is to eventually start my own company that assigns patients with advocates. These advocates will deal mainly with mentally and/or physically ill people. So many people do not get the proper care because they don’t always know where to go and what to ask for. This type of company will help people get the right course of treatment, in an appropriate amount of time. To be this type of advocate you need to be a well rounded individual, with a smart business sense and knowledge of happenings in the medical field.
Every course credit I earn is a small investment into my future. If I choose a program that requires a specific associates degree, it will just be more investment in me. I will work twice as hard with summer courses and any other extra class available to be sure I stay on track with my goal of obtaining my degree in the next three years. I love to help people and that will give me all the motivation to get my credentials so I can really start to make a difference in someones life.
