Treatment Planning: ICRC defines as the process in which the counselor and the client identify and rank problems needing resolution established agreeded upon immediate and long term goals and decide on treatment methods and resources to be used.

Goals:
1. Abastance/Sobriety (long term) 2. Refer client out to MD possible meds (short term) 3. Establish communication with MD (short term) 4. Establish social connection/social support (long term) 5. Drug related education (short term)
Treatment Objectives:
From Client’s Point of View: * Client wants to get well. TX often looked upon with interest and expectation. Client involvement in TX process is important and regular function for a counselor/ Clients vary in willingness and skill. * Client in denial or resents being in treatment program the TX is likely to be viewed by client as a hassle. Client’s participating in the treatment planning process will be limited or non existent in the initial stages.
From Counselor’s Point of View: * Viewed as an important process. Negotiate the TX. * Don’t overlook the therapeutic effect of the treatment planning process. Listen, reflect, explain and problem solve. * Treatment program should have a TX format for counselors to use. Well done TX will make the long term work of a counselor
