Irony In The Cask Of Amontillado By Edgar Allen Poe
A type of irony used sometimes is where the reader knows more than he author.

The irony is used to foreshadow what will happen.
The author Edgar Allen Poe uses irony in the short story the cask of amontillado.
There are 2 types of irony. There is situational and then there is verbal irony. In the short storythe cask of amontillado” ____ irony is used.
The first example of irony in this short story is Fortunato's name. According to “Behind the name” the late latin name Fortunatus means "fortunate, blessed, happy". In this short story Fortunato was the opposite of this definition, he was killed. He died a death in a dungeon wine cellar. There is nothing fortunate about what happened to him.
