Is Competition Good?
What is competition? Competitions occur when a group of people are fighting for the same goal, or shared resources which in short supplies. Besides that, there are two types of competition, which is intra-specific competition and inter- specific competition. Intra-specific competition defined as the struggle between members of population for certain sources. In another way, intra-specific competition is competition within two or more with the same species. Examples of intra-specific competition is mating, males fight for the females. Whereas inter-specific competition is the opposite of intra-specific competition. Inter-specific defined as competition among different types of species. For examples, different species of animal fight or fight for food and shelter. Every one of us know that competition always happens in our daily life, some of us may think that competition may not be good for us, but I’m not agree with that. Yes, maybe some of the consequences of having competition are not good, but still I think competition can bring positive changes to our life. Here are some points which can support mine agreement.
First of all, I think competition will promotes growth in our life. If I don’t have any competitor in my life, I would have never taken as many chances and learned as much as I have. This is because, when I don’t have any competitor in my learning process, I would never take any chances and opportunity to learn more as much as I do now, because I didn’t want to win and compete with my competitor or other great people around me. This is like one of our nature, if we want to compete with our competitor or other great people around us, we have to grow or fight for it. This is one of the reasons why when we want to learn or get good in something, try to make friends with people that are already good at it. There is a quote from Vince Lombardi says that “Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to is.”

Competition in most cases is a good thing. Athletes often profit the most from competition because they are forced to give their all on every play. Even a world class athlete, if he has completion will be pushed further and will have to give in to his own agenda (laziness) to remain competitive. Competition in the market place is no different; it combats most company self-interests and instead provokes producers into wealth-creating activities.1 The competitive process I feel also provides an even stronger incentive for producers to operate efficiently and heed the views of consumers.…

Whether it be fighting to receive a promotion, or to create the next best product, competition is inevitable. At state competitions the stakes are that much higher which result in a drive deep within. Having missed the chance to go to state my sophomore year by just one place, I had a goal to not be defeated when my opportunity came around the following year. The state competition is a whole new ball game, no home field advantage, no fans, and even faster pitchers. Having swung and missed a couple times in previous years, it was time for a grand slam. My competitive drive was awakened at these various competitions, and will continue to prosper throughout my education and career. The motivation created due to my competitiveness makes me a tough opponent on any level.…

Competition can help kids learn how to win and lose gracefully. Many people believe that competition is good for kids and some people have even written books about what they think about competition. According to Po Bronson, author of book Top Dog: The Science of Winning and Losing, “If kids don’t learn to lose they’re going to feel entitled to win,” said Bronson. “They’re also going to make a connection that fear of losing is going to prevent them from taking the risk in the first place. And what kids do need to learn is losing is not that big a deal. They need to learn to lose and go ‘Oh, whatever,’ and move on and keep playing.(“Why Competition Can Be Healthy”). If kids learned how to win and lose gracefully, then there probably wouldn’t…

Jonathan Wolff is the head of philosophy at the University College of London. In one of his pieces titled, Economic Competition: Should We Care About The Losers, he particularly focuses on the economic wellbeing on individuals whom interests may be in danger within economic competition. After discussing several subcategories within economic play, Wolff believes that we have a moral obligation to help those that may be taken advantage of in the commercial world. These potential “losers”, he states, fluctuates between producers and consumers. Within his description, Wolff clarifies that exploitation is a direct consequence of economic competition. “ A competition has been set up for the general good, but without sufficient regard to how this affects the people who are enticed into the competition by the promise of victory” (606). He therefore concludes that several methods of protection are needed for these individuals. Although he gives a relatively plausible argument over the potential mishaps within economic competition, Wolff fails to not only identify the greater successes in economic competition, but does not establish that the ability for exploitation to manifest lies within the government and can be minimalized by advocating citizens’ rights.…
