Some people find lying addictive, and in other cases lying is highly frowned upon in some peoples religions. Personally, I don’t lie very often but when I do it’s for a good reason. Although many may think there is never a good reason for lying, I believe it is. Lying is okay under certain circumstances, but people in today’s society don’t usually follow those circumstances. Lies that benefit one’s own wants and needs are most likely not good and unnecessary. The first reason lying is never okay is because it gives people false hope. One example of giving people false is in the beginning of the novel the Nazis lied to the Jews and gave them false hope saying the concentration camps were not going to be bad but they were actual torture to the Jews. The dictionary defines a lie as, “a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.” However, while the intent of a lie is to deceive, that deceit is not always intended to cause detriment to others. Lies can be told for justifiable reasons such as to protect the feelings of others, but more often lies are told for the wrong reasons. For example, lies are mostly told to avoid the consequences of one’s actions such as with criminal activities and academic misconduct. When comparing acceptable and unacceptable reasons to lie, the unacceptable reasons greatly outnumber the acceptable.…

In the article Brad Blanton: Honestly Tell the Truth written by Barbara Ballinger it states, “yes, but we shouldn’t manipulate the truth except for rare times-if you’re hiding Anne Frank in your attic because her life is in danger.” lying can not only be “beneficial” in ways that when used, may offer an exit out of a difficult situation. In the article Teens Do their Share of Lying by Loretta Ragsdell its states, “becoming a good liar is a necessary life-survival skill.” said Tim. “Sometimes, it’s the only thing between you and a guaranteed beat down from your parents.” As Tim stated, lying can be a necessity, it is something that can even define the thin line between two…

-I believe everyone has told a white lie sometime in their life and also that everyone is a victim of a white lie. An example of mine would be that for my birthday this past year my sister got me a new shirt, Well, me and my sister do not have the same taste in clothing and when I opened the gift I just had to smile and tell her I loved it and would wear it somewhere that next weekend.…

The white lie is one of the most popular lies. It can be used by anybody, kids to parents, friends to friends, students to teachers, boyfriends to girlfriends and so on. Telling the truth, but leaving out one or two main facts, genius. An example of one from an ex-boyfriend is “I had to stay at work late”, which was partially true, but he forgot to add the part when he stopped somewhere to see another girl. A personal favorite that has been used a good bit is “There was a lot of traffic” or “The truck over-heated”. White lies are a good way to keep ones-self from getting into trouble.…

Lying can be used as a way to respond to conflict. I am sure that at least once in your life you have lied about something to protect yourself or someone else. In the story “The Diary of Anne Frank” Anne is a Jewish girl hiding with her family from the Nazis. While in the annex, they have friends who keep their secret by lying about their location so they don’t get caught. (Frank 122-124) Another example would be the book “The Boy In The Striped Pajamas”. The young boy Bruno thinks the concentration camps near his new house are farms, his mother and father refuse to tell him what it actually is. Bruno lies to…

Being raised in the Capitalist system based on competition, we were taught that it was fine to tell lie. Some argued that it was fine to lie when it is a death and live matter, others may argue that it is o.k to lie if it doesn't hurt any one. On my personal level, I don't feel it is morally comfortable to lie to anyone. Because of the society we live in is filled with lies and mistrust doesn't mean we, as the newest generation should learn to lie. Instead, I want to live in a lie free life.…
