There are a lot of nonmerit factors, but there is one which can be linked to almost all other nonmerit barriers, inheritance. Being an extensive subject of the issue is meritocracy a working system, it creates unequal starting points before we even can realize it. Our initial class placement has happened since birth, whether we are born into abundance or poverty is the quintessential cause where we will end up in life. As the article “The Meritocracy Myth” points out: “Where we start out in life has the greatest effect on where we end up,” (McNamee and Miller, pp.5). Along with inheritance comes a handful of advantages such as education. Nowadays in our society, even education has its price. Those, who are financially above the average, have and use the opportunity to send their children to private schools, in which the environment, the personal interaction with teachers and a more advanced teaching system have a huge impact on the child’s learning process.
