Is the Gettysburg Address Still Relevant Today
The Gettysburg Address was a famous speech given by President Lincoln at Gettysburg in1863. The speech was influential and inspiring to many different kinds of people. The Gettysburg Address touched several topics such as human equality, peace and honoring soldiers. The Gettysburg Address is still relevant today due to its motivational words towards human equality and paying tribute to war veterans. To quote the speech, Lincoln said "Fourscore and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are equal". Here Lincoln was saying that when our founding fathers built the country, they built it with the intention of making all men equal. Lincoln addresses the topic of human equality several times throughout the speech. If her wouldn't have said that all men are created equal, people would most likely wouldn't have been as inspired to abolish slavery as they were when he did. Who knows, if he didn't talk about it, or ever gave the speech at all, there might still be slavery today. Throughout the speech, Lincoln pushes the importance of honoring the soldiers that fought for freedom in the Civil War. If he hadn't done this, then their might not be a Memorial Day, or we probably wouldn't give veterans as much respect as they should. In conclusion, the Gettysburg Address is a speech that changed the course of the United States. Lincoln talked about sensitive topics such as slavery and human equality, and important tasks like honoring the veterans that gave up their lives to fight for freedom. The Gettysburg Address is still relevant today because if it wasn’t said, then who knows where the country would be today.
