There are more cons than pros for the Internet. Nicholas Carr has many great pieces of evidence to support his thesis. I agree because the Internet can take you down many wrong paths but at the same time technology is our future. Today people are not focusing on trying to improve our future, they are worried about today’s fashion or video games or celebrities. One of the studies Carr looked at was by Cornell which figured out that web surfing does distract students. The neuroscientist named Michael Merzenich made a very dramatic reason what the long-term effects of the Internet. Merzenich said the Internet could lead to death, which could be right but we don’t have any proof at the moment. At the same time, I think the Internet is a great source for information. I wish Carr talked a little about how the Internet also has important information…

It is important to never exclude anyone whether intentional or by lack of thought or consideration. Just because a service user has dementia, it does not exclude him or her from taking part in activities and there should be activities to suit their capabilities so they are not left feeling isolated or inadequate remembering that dementia has a wide range of stages each person needs to be suitably stimulated, also having dementia should never result in them being excluded from decisions or discussions regarding their own care. Even advance dementia as long as they can still make their wishes known through speech, picture cards or other communication methods they must still be included. A good example of not excluding them from choices is if you were to offer a dementia sufferer a bath or wash and they decline to, do not try and force the issue, come back later and try again where a different state of mind could result in a different outcome.…

Before we get onto the positive effects of internet use, let’s start with these much touted negative side effects. The naysayers would have us believe that the internet prevents us from interacting on a face to face basis and destroys old fashioned pursuits of writing letters and speaking on the phone; people even meet their spouses online these days! With business and finance now handled online we’re also far too dependent on the internet and would be at a loss should it break down. With the internet in our pocket we’re now never ‘disconnected’ and are at our boss’ beck and call 24 hours a day. Our bank cards are also more susceptible than ever to fraud and theft… And through all this we’re getting addicting and neglecting our real relationships, stuck inside in a more and more hermit like existence. They also say that sitting in front of a computer prevents us from getting outside and basking in fresh air and instead gives us repetitive strain injuries, hunched over spines and square…

Hieronimo Squarciafico, the Italian humanist, believed the easily available books that the printing press provided would lead to weaker minds (100). Writing and the easy access to books, two of the world’s biggest discoveries, yet they were seen as things that would harm people rather than help. Nicholas Carr advocates the harmfulness of the internet in his article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Carr believes the internet is changing the way we think. We are slowly losing our ability to concentrate. The internet is negatively affecting our brains. The fast paced world of the internet…

I believe that it has many advantages but then again it also had a few disadvantages. I find it extremely helpful for research, social networking and even aids in my school work. If the internet was unavailable I would have to spend more time researching in the library which would result in less time on school work. Statistics show that around a third of the world’s population make use of the internet. The advantages are great – it is quick, efficient and communication worldwide is made easy; Also, users may find this hard to believe that many trees are saved as a result of using less paper as everything can be safely stored on the computer’s hard drive. However, if we look at the positive side of the internet, we find that the advantages are more than disadvantages. Thus, I feel that the internet is helpful in our lives for many reasons. Firstly, the internet is the best way to communicate with other people anywhere and anytime. For example, when a member of family studies abroad, the family can communicate with each other by many programs which are supported by the internet such as Skype and MSN. For this reason, the internet will be helpful for not feeling homesick, because the internet is the easier and cheaper than other ways of communicating. The other point is that the internet could be used in education. For instance, we can access our homework, listen to science lectures, and search for…
