Isaac Newton Struggles

The third hero is Sir Isaac Newton, possibly the most brilliant man to ever live, who has made a plethora of scientific accomplishments. Although with his great mind it also carried mental illness. Author Marina Jones, writer for Futurism, writes about Sir Isaac Newton’s struggles in her article titled “The Madness of Sir Isaac Newton”. Newton should inspire others to overcome their obstacles no matter how large they are. In his early life he had to overcome some personal issues. His first struggle was that his family was extremely broken. His illiterate father died before he was born and he resented his mother and new stepfather. This caused Isaac Newton to live with his grandmother when he was about three years old. Another struggle he faced
was his mind was riddled with illness and dark thoughts. Marina Jones states, “His notebooks on his college years document anxiety, sadness, fear, a low opinion of himself, and suicidal thoughts”(Jones). Newton’s mental illness is most likely caused by his rough early childhood. Overcoming mental illness is heroic in itself, but then becoming one of the most brilliant scientists is simply extraordinary. Isaac Newton was a brilliant man who sacrificed his personal life for the advancement of humanity. Looking past Newton’s struggles he had an extensive amount of incredible accomplishments. Newton’s first, most noteworthy accomplishments are his scientific discoveries. An author for famous scientists, states in their internet article titled “Isaac Newton”, “With Newton’s calculus, universal gravitation, and laws of motion, you have enough knowledge at your fingertips to plot a course for a spaceship to any planet in our solar system or even another solar system”(“Isaac Newton”)! Newton’s three laws of motion completely changed the world’s view of physics in his time and are still accepted today. Calculus, the mathematical study of change, was almost entirely developed by Newton himself and is used to solve some of the world’s most challenging physics problems. Finally, Newton was knighted by Queen Anne. Newton was one of the only scientists to be knighted in his time. Becoming a knight is an extraordinary accomplishment because it is a title given by the king or queen themselves recognizing top notch citizens. In conclusion, Newton was faced with many early life obstacles, but overcame them and became one the most brilliant and influential scientists to ever live.
