Radio Reflection Essay
Pope Benedict XVI once wrote, “One of the deepest forms of poverty a person can experience is isolation. If we look closely at other kinds of poverty, including material forms, we see that they are born from isolation, from not being loved or from difficulties in being able to love”. This quote applies to the film Radio in multiple ways. In the beginning of the movie, Radio is seen as an outsider and comes off as “dangerous” and “crazy”. He was isolated by everyone, nobody let him in or gave him a chance until Coach Jones came across Radio during football practice. The quote is talking about how much isolation really takes a toll on someone, and how badly it could affect an individual mentally. Everyone is equal, and we have to treat others the way we want to be treated. You never know someone's true story until you give them a chance and see what they are really about.
Many people throughout the film recognize and build up others. For example, Coach Jones gives Radio a chance and helps him start a real life. Radio’s intentions were always good and he always meant well. At every football game, he cheered everyone on and always wanted the best for them. Radio was born with a true and clean soul, but throughout the film he is taunted and made to feel less of himself. Regardless of what others did or said to him, he continued to support everyone and help anyone who needed it. He treated everyone with respect and did as much as he could in whatever he did. Even though others did not treat him with dignity, he continued to do what he knew was right.
