It is a well-known fact that the world is becoming increasingly urbanized. In almost every country in the world the trend has been for more and more people to move from small towns to larger cities. Although there are certain aspects of living in small town that I would appreciate such as clean air and less noise, however the urbanizing trend pretty much reflects my own preference for living in a big city rather than in a small town, because in my opinion the place one lives in plays more important role in one’s life in terms of wider range of opportunities. I think the education and career opportunities are the most prominent among them.
Education plays a major role in people’s future success and prosperity. As opposed to living in a small town where there are less chances to get a good education, simply because of the limited number of colleges or universities, living in big cities makes it possible to have a variety of educational institutions one can choose from. The availability of many different subjects enables people to get the knowledge in the fields they are seeking which, I think, is immensely important for becoming a good specialist. For instance, my cousin had always wanted to study Theology but there were no such opportunities in the small town he had been living. So he had to move to Yerevan, the capital of my country Armenia, since only in the city could he possible got that education he was looking for.
On the other hand, a good education is essential for career opportunities. Access to good jobs is another important reason why large cities are preferable to small towns. Aside from the fact that cities have a huge range of different jobs available, the larger and more successful companies are almost invariably located in big cities. Obviously, the possibility to get a good job in big city massively overweighs that in small towns. For example, a very good friend of mine had been looking for a job in the town he was living for over a year with no success, just because there were not many jobs suitable for his profession. Recently, after several successful interviews, he got a job offer with permanent position form ArmFood LTD, a very respectable company in Armenia, and currently he is living in the center of the city with his family. He couldn’t be happier with his dream job, the one that he never could have found in the small town he was living.
To sum up ,big cities provide much more opportunities for better life which, based on the discussed issues, can be resulted from a good education and, consequently, a better job. In my view, these evident advantages justify my preference of living in big cities rather than in small towns.
