Ivan the Terrible killed people in horrible ways, often because he was angry. He spent much of his childhood (under constant treat from his ugly half-sister Sofia) learning army tactics and designing ship’s. As an adult he toured Europe learning about the latest advances so he could bring them back to Russia. When he returned he began Westernizing Russia. Sometimes he took his impatiens with those who didn’t get on board, a teeny bit too far. Like his son. Pete tortured him to the Death! He was the Master of bureaucracy. Peter I completely restructured the government on western models. He established a Privy Council staffed with his closest friends and a Senate and Colleges (which weren’t university’s but instead government). (Rowley 173) He lassoed the rush in Orthodox Church so it couldn’t dis him anymore. Re-organized the army and fought war’s to expand Russian lands. His wife Catherine who was a former Lady of the Night and although he never specialized Cathy should succeed him, she did. He left Russia stronger unlike Ivan who left Russia weaker. Russia descended into KAOS after Ivan’s death and it didn’t get no bettor until Peter came along. That’s why Ivan is known as terrible and Peter as Great. The
