JB: A Short Story
I am JB. Just JB, it doesn’t stand for anything. I was born a wild and free hunter, but these days I live with my humans. It is easy food, and much warmer than the outdoors, but I miss the grass beneath my paws, and the wind in my fur.

Don’t get me wrong, my people are good people, but they’re a little… handsy. A stomach rub every once in a while is nice, but a cat can’t even walk to his litter box without being grabbed and hugged so tight I can’t escape!

Just the other day I was waiting for my lunch to be served, and instead of pouring my food, the alpha human, Novella tried to pick me up and kiss me all over!

Harry, Lily, and Gretchen are no better. They are the beta humans. Gretchen likes to hold me hostage in her bed in the mornings, Lily always wants to scratch me, and Harry will pick me up whenever he pleases and drop me from way too far up!

It may have been rough in the wild, but no one disrespected my solitude. And they’re the ones that leave the front door open for so long! Sometimes I think they want me to run out.

But alas, every time I bolt out the door I hear a chorus of “JB!!!”s. I try and hide in the neighbor's bushes, but somehow they always find me, and I am un-willfully carried back inside.

Life inside has gotten quite boring. I already found all the sunny spots the during the first few weeks of indoor existence, and all of the places the humans leave food. So, that source of entertainment has run dry.

Now, other than my monthly attempts at escape, my days are spent sleeping, eating, waiting to sleep, waiting to eat, and staring out the window daydreaming of the outdoors.

….that and being scratched, cuddled, and hugged like the world depends on

I, Jaelin Carter, am writing to you, Hetal Patel, to prove to you why I deserve to continue my college career here at Robert Morris University. Rightfully so, should I have been on academic probation seeing as though I did not take the opportunity to allow my true scholastic ability to speak for me. By no means am I using this appeal as a window to make excuses for my poor choices but to simply enlighten you on the troubling and disheartening incidents that occurred which unfortunately became my first priority.…

When we arrived I was amazed at all the different costumes. There was a couple that had two bulldogs. The male was dressed as a gentleman, and the female was dressed in a little queen outfit. They were so amazingly cute. As me and Tailgate walked around, there was a woman that fell in love with Tailgate. She followed us the entire time, taking pictures of Tailgate. Then we entered the last building there was a woman with two Boston terroirs. They were attacking other dogs, growling, nipping. The sad thing is the lady did not stop their behavior. When we were close Tailgate hid behind my leg. I did not realize there was a couple behind me until I heard this low growl. They had a huge pit bull. The little dogs decided they were going to attack the bigger pit bull, and he let them know he was not going to back down from them. Well the lady with the two little dogs scooped up her little minions and let this gasp out. She was telling anyone that would listen how this big bad Pitbull tried to eat her babies. I was so mad. She could not control her little pups, and it took a growl from another dog, (it had to be a pit), for her to finally control them.…

"for safety is not a gadget but a state of mind" and so is hope. When you are facing obstacles all you think of is finding a solution no matter what . That was the case when the Joad family had no other way but to find a better place to live in.They decided to leave everything behind and go to California. The place that many families decided to go to believing they can find a good life waiting for them. Kind of similar to Christopher MCcandless's story except his parent's mistreatment is the reason behind his pilgrimage. He decided to move to a far place where he can find safety and hope and star a new life.My family's story could also relate to Christopher's but instead of family issues we had society and environment issues. We did not live in peace and all we wanted is to find a better place.…

Many times in life, people start to wholeheartedly follow a goal. They focus solely on the goal, abandoning all reason and logic. Javert was one of these people. In Victor Hugo’s novel Les Misérables, Javert was a police inspector who believed in absolutes. Consequently, for him, nothing could be both right and wrong; things were either completely good or completely bad. This attitude helped form his goal of life: to follow the law obediently and punish all criminals. Javert’s commitment to his goal led to his cruel hunt of Jean Valjean and his later suicide. His obsession with his goal also had an extensive influence on the theme of the novel. Javert’s goal thus shaped Hugo’s Les Misérables in both plot and meaning.…

I have been waiting here for two whole dull years. It is dreadfully space less in this ridiculous lamp. Why did I believe that dirty street rat Aladdin to use my third wish to turn into a genie? I should have used it to be with Jasmine forever. I love her so much. My name is Jafar and I am (or was) the most powerful sorcerer in the world, until I turned into a genie, and I am a lover of Princess Jasmine of Agrabah. You see, I just wanted to be Jasmine’s love. I could not do that if there was another man involved! I had to get rid of him once and for all. It all started when I really knew that I had to be with her. I made a plan. I was following Jasmine in the market to make sure she was not acting as she was “on the market”, when I caught her run away with a dirty little peasant! He isn’t even a prince, being with him is strictly prohibited! I was so heartbroken, so I sent the palace guards to go find that boy, and capture him, saying it was for stealing, so that I could give him a little talk. They got him, so my plan was headed in the right direction. When Jasmine came back to the palace, she was mad at me for arresting this fool who she recalls is named “Aladdin”. What an ugly name! Mrs. Jafar tops Mrs. Aladdin by a long shot. I did not understand why she got upset about it, I was trying to make sure she was getting the best for her, (and I am the best). That night I went down to the cellar to talk to this “Aladdin”. I made sure I was in disguise so he couldn’t recognize me; I mean, who doesn’t know me? The wonderful-handsome-rich Jafar, Grand Vizier of Agrabah. I think he bought it, because he did not seem to be star-stricken. I made him trust me then I turned it all around when I set him into a trap! Legend has it, only a “Diamond in the Rough” can retrieve a magic lamp, currently in the Cave of Wonders. There was a genie with 3 wishes inside the lamp. I would use them all to call Jasmine my princess! I told him I could get him out…

They call me placid Jermaine, but really I’m not. There’s nothing peaceful or calm in my mind I’m actually very opinionated. I’m constantly thinking and wondering about things. Growing up an African American teen in Lafayette, Virginia the odd of success were against me. My whole life I’ve been around small-minded bigots which are noxious mentally to be around. They’re telling me the only way I would ever make it in life is if I played sports or if I sold drugs just because of the color of my skin. I have no idea why people like that have to be so knotty. My mother would always give me the best advice with dealing with a person like that. She told me there’s numerous amount of small-minded people in the world just prove them wrong so you…
