Kennedy used several Parallelism structure in his inaugural speech to convey the idea that America shall no longer be afraid of the outside, which indicated the Soviet Union, but be strong and have faith. In the fourth paragraph, J.F.K used a parallelism which started each phrase with a verb like ‘pay’, ’bear’, ’support’, ’oppose’ to indicate that Americans would strive for liberty regardless of all the hardship they might encounter. Freedom does not come to us straightforward. In the process of pursuing our ideal society, we cannot imagine those difficulties that would tear us apart. However, J.F.K used this syntax to eliminate his citizens’ doubt and deliver an intense linguistic power to the world. Freedom take price, but as long as people have believes, the Americans shall “pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe” to assure the survival of liberty.
