I think the guy in the story seems to always take his dog for granted. He should listen to the signs the dog gives him. The dog is letting him know he’s in danger, but the man simply ignores the dog. When Jack London wrote “the dog followed again at his heels, with his tail hanging low.” the man should have known that
when a dog's tail droops and is low indicates them being upset. Next the guy didn't come prepared. He’s always talking about something he “forgot”. For example when Jack London wrote “He knew that and was sorry he had not worn the sort of nose guard Bud wore when it was cold. Such a guard passed across the nose and covered the entire face keeping him warm.” If he had brought this nose guard his face would have been a lot warmer, his face wouldn't be covered with frozen water and tobacco. He would have a much higher chance of surviving. If this man had come prepared and listened to his dogs warnings he probably would have survived. The story wouldn't have been as interesting if the man wasn't so ignorant.
