These people prayed to God and were able to come off of their addictions, without the pain and difficulty most addicts suffer when they stop taking drugs.
One day Jackie realised the problem young Christians living in the Walled City were facing, living in drug dens. This made Jackie decide to being opening her own home to some of the boys. She helped to care for the boys, cook for them, cloth them, and find them jobs or schools to attend. Jackie then created the ‘Society of Stephen’. The name was taken from a story in the Bible (Acts 6-7) about one of the early followers of Jesus, who spent his time helping those in need. Through her work, thousands of drug addicts in the Walled City had been saved from their drug addictions.
The story of Jackie Pullinger’s work as a Christian missionary, has inspired me drastically. She still continues being a Christian missionary today and helping those in need, trying to make their lives better than what they were before. For Jackie to never give up on the boys addicted to heroin or opium from a young age, inspired me the most. Most people would have given up on these boys, but Jackie didn’t. She’s extremely decided to her work, which has inspired me to become even more decided to my own
