This sport is highly enjoyed by millions in both the Usa and Canada alike and many americans feel like it an amazing American sport! Would it be a shocker to know that the sport is actually not American but Canadian! This sport was invented by a man of the name James A. Naismith. Naismith was a born Canadian and sadly was orphaned at the age of 8, soon after he became a physician and physical educator. Naismith saw that during the summer getting exercise and, doing sports such as soccer and bastball were great but not much in the winter (BUTLER, FRANK T). He wanted a game that could be played indoors all year to keep people healthy and was inspired with soccer balls and was first played with them utile 1929 (“Basketball Facts.”) . Soon in 1891 the wonderful sport of basketball was invented! He also helped invent the helmet in football (“James A. Naismith.”). Basketball made it frist big day view in the 1936 Olympics games in Berlin for man and in 1976 made it way into the Woman's division in the Montreal games (“Basketball Facts.”).
