James And The Giant Peach
After reading the novel, “James and the Giant Peach”, by Roald Dahl, I came to the conclusion that I do not recommend this book. One of the main reasons why I do not recommend the novel is, that most of the characters are insects as appose to humans. I really was not able to relate with the characters, and in my opinion that is a very important aspect to a story. For example, “‘I have a lot of legs’ said the centipede, ‘one hundred to be exact.’ (Page 35)” It is very difficult to relate to a full conversation about the number of legs belonging to someone.
Additionally there were several sections in the book referring to the insects’ special abilities that we humans do not poses. “The bow of the violin, the part that was moved, was his
back leg, and he was stroking this up and down against the edge of his wing with incredible skill...always with the same flowing action. (Page 86)” Although I can somewhat relate to some of their characteristics, when I think about their physical attributes it is like they are from another planet
