Kafka’s Metamorphosis, encompasses that insects are difficult to get rid of. Gregor transforms into an insect and becomes a burden to his family. Moreover, Gregor was the one who supported the family’s basic needs, such as making enough capital to survive, but when he becomes an insect it disables him to help them. The family is very dependent on Gregor, therefore initially each member of the family does not contribute to their well being and union. Even though Gregor physically changes, the subject going through true transformation is the dynamic of the family.

The family slowly begins to “swallow their disgust, and put up with [Gregor] in patience, just put up with [Gregor]” (Kafka 59). Since Gregor can no longer make money because he cannot go to work, he helps his father to remove his garbage. This entails the father’s laziness inhibiting the family to earn money. However, he begins to work as a bank attendant and has changed for the better. Greta, is ignorant to the problem of not having Gregor actively around. She initially feeds him, which makes the problem stronger, and she removes all the furniture from his bedroom so Gregor can get out of hand and move as he wish. However, she later discovers that money has become a huge strain and so she and the family get lodgers to help pay with the rent. In order for the lodgers to accept to rent, she moves all the furniture and unwanted junk into Gregor’s room. This adds constraints and weakness to Gregor, the problem. Furthermore, the mother’s asthma is an an obstacle from going to work, but she begins to sew lingerie for a fashion boutique, which brings in some profit. Therefore, they are all heading in the right direction. In all, each family member is slowly working out the problem together as a team.
