Have you ever lied before ? We all have. From the time we lied about cheating on the test to the time we lied about stealing the last cookie. Our life is full of lies because we are always trying to evade the truth. But if your whole identity was a lie and you were nothing like what you said you were ? This is what James Hogue did when he applied to Princeton with a fake application and and a fake identity. This was all just one in a number lies and half truths that Hogue said. Alexi Santana was a self taught orphan who lived in the Grand Canyon, raised sheep and read books on philosophy . Though he seemed unusual the Princeton track coach was eager to have him on the team. He was a good student and was passing all of his classes. He also had a natural aptitude for running. Everyone thought they knew the this usual freshman. During a Ivy league track meet, a runner from Yale recognized Santana from Palo Alto High School. Apparently, Santana had been caught at the high school by impersonating a high school student. He was left the high school and they found out he was actually 27 years old. Fast forward to 1989, Santana is at the track meet he is 31 years old but everyone thinks that he is 19. Though Hogue did not apply to Stanford he got a job at a cross- training camp after he claimed he had a doctorate degree at the university. Anew Hogue was discovered. Around the same time Hogue also stole $20,000 worth of bike tools and supplies and hid it in a warehouse. Hogue was then caught after someone saw him using the tools. He was sentenced to 5 years in jail. He had been planning to go to Princeton but he had to defer for a year because he had to finish his sentence . Detective Matt Jacobson was on the case and found the bike supplies as well as a collection of résumés and application letters to Ivy League schools that were all under the name Alexi Indris Santana.
