First, there was only a few laborers that settled in Jamestown. They lack the knowledge and skills needed to be successful at planting and bring in an harvest. The Natives had the knowledge of farming and had such advice as burying dead fish as fertilizer.

The Natives then stopped the colonist from travelling farther inland onto their lands. The colonist was barricaded and unable to hunt or cultivate food. This resulted in colonist living on dogs, rats, snakes and the dead corpses of men. This action resulted in Jamestown being known as participating in cannibalism. According to Smithsonian forensic anthropologist Douglas Owsley Given these bones in a trash pit, all cut and chopped up, it’s clear that this body was dismembered for consumption.” This was proof that cannibalism was done in Jamestown.

Sixth, the first set of colonist to occupy Jamestown were all men. Three shiploads of men settled on Jamestown in 1607.These men were all soldiers by trade. Organization of the settlers became chaotic because all the men were accustomed to leadership roles and began arguing. The Chaotic organization accused of hoarding food, blamed for an escape attempt and john smith escaped a sentence to hanged. One of the six councilors was also and executed. This chaos caused John Smith to write about the mismanagement and corruption within the colony.
