Jamestown was originally founded for profit, by a joint stock company. The joint stock company planned on selling and growing tobacco. Jamestown was poorly planned and many died due to the poorly planning of the Virginia Company. A document of all the men recruited for this journey were mostly gentlemens. There were very few men who were able to labor. This was one of the reasons why the death tolls were high, another reason for high deaths are due to the relationship with the Indians. There were many conflict with the indians causing death tolls to go higher. Massachusetts Bay was founded by the Puritans for religious beliefs. The church of England didn’t accept the beliefs of the Puritans. So then, the puritans left as families on boats. The puritans wanted religious freedom yet they were not very tolerate any other religions. Anne Hutchinson challenged the puritans beliefs and gender roles. She was trialed and later banished from Massachusetts. William Penn was also banished for not believing the puritans beliefs. Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn and was founded as a “holy experiment.” William Penn and wanted equality to all, even woman, indians and even blacks. This religious practice was adopted by the quackers. Quakers were the first to believe in abolitionist. Quakers had very good relations with the indians since they believed in equality.
Each town had errors and mistakes, but they were slowly improving as a new providence was found.
