Jan Van Eyck In The Renaissance Era

The Renaissance period was a time for many artists to flourish. Different styles and brush works were used to create masterpieces that filled the public and private areas. One important Northern Renaissance painter was Jan Van Eyck. Born sometime before 1390, Van Eyck was an Early Netherlandish artist of the 15th century that was mostly active in Bruges. Little is known about Van Eyck’s early life, yet, he is widely considered one of the best northern European painters of the 15th century. People often mistaken him to be the person who invented oil painting due to his great work and oil usage. Three paintings that I consider to be great works from Van Eyck are the Man in a Turban, Arnolfini Portrait, and Madonna of Chancellor
