If I would to be a Hollywood producer and if I remade this for a 21st century speaker, I would use a celebrity person named Miranda Crosgrow cast as a speaker, and I would set the scene in San Diego, California. The reason why I would put it in San Diego, California, is because it is very nice there and there is a lot of people to be found there that can be useful for a lot of things. There are Celebrities there as well. It is just a good city overall since it’s in California anyways, where there is good weather, a good scenery is always good. The “Seven Ages of Man,” by William Shakespeare’s play I think that Miranda Crosgrow would be good as the speaker and I could compare her to this act of William Shakespeare’s scene. Miranda Crowgrow played…

Charlie Gordon should not have been the subject of the experiment. While Daniel Keyes in “Flowers for Algernon” portrayed hope for a mentally impaired man, Charlie Gordon, the operation failed with devastating consequences! Before the surgery, Charlie desperately longed to be a member of a society that he was unable to completely comprehend. Charlie, as a genius, was permitted to witness the horrendous actions towards those with mental ailments. Additionally, Charlie was viewed as an experiment, deserving no rights or respect. After the surgery, once again could not relate and function normally in society, which was his only desire. Lastly, Charlie, the genius, understood that the effects of the surgery were, unfortunately, temporary. Through Charlie’s investigation of Algernon’s life, it became apparent that the operation was a failure. Although Charlie enjoyed his time of being a genius, he was saddened to see how society truly was.…
Sanger Rainsford, a millionaire hunter on trial for the alleged murder of General Zaroff, has stated that he, along with many Spanish sailors, were “held captive in this island, kept in constant fear, worrying about being found, and most likely dying. The general kept on telling me [Rainsford] these stories about how no sailor survived his game. It was like I was just the next person in line to be killed by some superior being, like an animal at a slaughterhouse.”…
In an editorial published by The New York Times, the author sees the altering of Mark Twain’s language within The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as an desecration of a rich piece of literature, and does not approve of a new “sanitized” edition of the novel. Although the intention of the novel’s editor was to replace certain words with less offensive phrases, the article’s author sees the replacement of “nigger” with “slave” as a corruption of a historical language. The “n-word” will be identified as the worser term and the substituted word will be viewed as having no relation to the wickedness of slavery. The author argues that the beauty and significance of “Huckleberry Finn” is its ability to precisely interpret the detailed dialect of the time period, and would be severely damaged if another writer would transform its original context.…
William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury tells of a crumbling southern family, the Compsons, through the inner thoughts of three brothers and a third person narrator. Each of the three sections gives a different perspective on their sister, Caddy, who is the main cause of the turmoil in the family. The brother’s, Benjy, Quentin, and Jason, each interpret Caddy differently based on each of their interior conflicts. Benjy’s section gives the reader the perspective of the Caddy from a simple minded perspective, and describes Caddy as such. Quentin, being highly educated, gives a deeper look into Caddy and how she leads the family, and Quentin, to their end. Jason views Caddy as a disappointment and a curse upon the family. In Jason’s interpretation…
“The edge of the hilltop we looked away down into the village and could see three or four lights twinkling, where there was sick folks, maybe: and the stars over us ever so fine: and won by the village was the river, a whole mile broad, and awful still and grand.”(6).…
Some say the war of Indians did not end until after a 71 day standoff February 28th, 1973 at Wounded Knee against Indians and the American government in a protest. The Indians were fighting for their treaty rights (Wounded Knee the Longest War). The Indians wanted the world to see what it was like to be them, to live in poverty and feel racism as well as being powerless against the government. The elder women were just as involved in the standoff as men. The Indians had demands such as the United States should recognize the Oglala government and an investigation of the Oglala Tribal President Dick Wilson. They had a total of 20 demands, all of which was nothing done about. Two people died and one person was paralyzed as a result of the siege (1973).…
Help can be given and received only by those who accept it. The teenagers of today’s society seem to rebel against help and those who can give help. Teenagers seem to have the mentality that they have to do everything on their own, that they have to be “independent”, and that no one understands them. With that type of mentality no one can be helped. Holden has that same mentality. He believes that he is a grown independent man who can live on his own and that he does not need anyone. Therefore before her accepts any help he is forced to reach his breaking point.…
In this current gen, it’s almost impossible to imagine that someone can live without computers. Computers have become an electronic device used almost daily and used from individuals of every age. When someone is looking up a question that can’t be answered by themselves or anyone else around, who do you ask? Answering he/she question or oneself can only get easier by just accessing a computer. Having access to the computer will bring you access to the internet which has all the questions and information one might ask for. “Computers are used in education for a variety of purposes. Students benefit from using them as tools and resources for gathering information” (Barrus). This shows how technology itself has been proven to be worthy of aiding society over time. Computers have been a huge beneficial factor towards society advancing in education, health, and communication. And what brings this technology to life is society. “Society” the first thought that comes to mind when heard or seen, is a group of people within a community. Society itself is what brings technology to excel such as the computer. Within a society you’re going to have citizens (people) who make up the society. That being said there will be people out there who’s interested in innovation; new ideas and new inventions. “Businesses have been transformed as well, and computers are found in corporations, factories, doctor's offices, hotels, restaurants, schools, colleges, universities, retail and commercial enterprises; literally every concern in every country uses computers” (Barrus) this shows how widely computers are used. To be more specific, computers have beneficially advanced education, health and communications. Computers allows learners to learn modern tools and knowledge that will make him or her ready for technological changes for the near future.…
School was always something that came easy to me. I was the girl that had barely ever studied and still received perfect grades. When I was a junior in high school, I became very ill and missed a lot of school. If it had not been for one of my teachers, Mrs. Henrey, I would not have been able to move onto the next grade.…
Upon doing further research, Olaudah Equiano was absolutely born in Africa! He was kidnapped and sold into slavery when he was just a young boy. His vivid accounts, as he was sold from trader to trader, are so moving and heartfelt. No one could express such deep sympathy for the multitude of other black slaves had he not been there during the experience. The following few paragraphs will explain just how he came to be sold into slavery and some of the things that he saw while he was being traded and shipped from place to place.…
Standing tall and proud, standing for what’s right. Knowing that people wont except you after this. Yet you do it anyway. You know that people wont look at you the same way anymore. Most people would run away from their problems, most people would not even look twice without walking away. If most people run than what do others do? Well I am here to tell you. Tell you that not just in To Kill A Mockingbird there are people that do the right thing. To show you that there are many people in the real world that do the right thing.…
