Many of us at one point in time have heard someone use some kind of jargon. In the essay, "She's Your Basic LOL" written by Perri Klass I actually learned why jargon is actually used. Of course in many situations the jargon can be differnet but the reason for the language is more than likely the same. I believe that jargon can be appropriate in many different situations. When in an emergency room atmosphere I can definitely see the importance as well as being a team member or coach for a sport. Jargon can also be appropriate in a work place environment.…

For example a family member may say a word that will make the rest of the family laugh but a visitor will remain puzzled, or someone may use a ‘slang’ word that the rest of the family understands but not visitors.…

Jargon is a term for the way people in a particular group or setting speak which is different or considered complex to others. Medical jargon would be often a case of abbreviating different procedures or illnesses between doctors, nurses and medical professionals but this can prove difficult for those who do not understand it. It can lead to the person feeling disempowered, it could mean the individual feels distressed when there isn’t any need to out of pure misunderstanding and just generally make them feel uncomfortable when talking to you as you are not making the effort to adjust your vocabulary. The ways to overcome medical jargon would be to avoid using it when and where you can especially with service users. You would need to use simpler words and language when talking to different people and have the ability to recognise that. If you were to use jargon if it was easier to use then you would also need to clarify with the service user what you have just said so they understand and even asking them to repeat back to you could provide better…

To begin with, slang is neither profanity nor bad grammar; it is an informal language and is not appropriate for formal occasions. Slang was used throughout history. Ancient Greek writers used it over 2,000 years ago and even the famed Shakespeare used slang in his plays. Many slang terms are expressive, humorous and vivid. People use slang more often in speaking than in writing and more often with friends than strangers as it expresses friendliness and puts people at ease. It adds character to everyday conversation.…

Slang, idioms and Jargons are an unacceptable way of writing in the business for a number of problems. The article from “Essential to business Communication” writes, “Slang words quickly go out of fashion because they are no longer appealing when everyone begins to understand then”(Guffey). The language of slang is constantly changing and different words mean different things to different people. Because of its inconsistency, slang cannot be used because everything including language must be consistent in business. Using slang leads to improper decoding of messages. Jargons are not acceptable in business since “It’s out of place and the audience misunderstands, it can create a two-fold problem. Whilst you fail to convey information to them, you may also succeed in conveying a more subtle, negative message: That you have given little thought to your audience; and perhaps that you are insincere and not to be trusted”(Mindtools). The ability for your audience to understand the message is the goal of communication in…
Some people consider slang a natural way for people to belong someplace and reflect the times they live in. Some people also believe that ‘Slang may be a relaxed way of speaking, but the fact that people use slang to differentiate themselves from other groups means it can only be used in certain places”( Vinson ,Chicago tribune), however most slang words can be adapted into many different cultures and places. With all the technology that we have today it is hard for things like slang to stay in just one place.…

Although I have got my own dialect, my way of speaking always changes, this is due to the fact that I have to adapt and change my spoken language to fit the situation that I am in. I feel the need to change the way I speak in certain situations as in a business environment I would not use slang as I would get judged and misread, also in a job interview I would talk formal as this would make me sound more professional and mature. Also my spoken language changes as I feel I would not fit in and I feel afraid of getting excluded and being forced into speaking a certain way.…
