Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair-
Timbre:
A. In this song I hear a flute from the very beginning, after a moment other instruments join, a piano, and a violin, and what seems to be a guitar but I am unsure of what the final instrument is.
B. Mr. Hampson’s voice is the only heard in this song. It is smooth and almost has an opera type feel to it, it is also very deep and resonant it seems.
C. I didn’t notice any further noises besides the instruments listed and the singer’s voice. It seems this is a very clean song with little utilization of outside noise sources.
D. I would say they have an orchestral feel to them with a piano, violin, and flute in the ensemble. I believe …show more content…
It uses old ballad tradition structures and as the book states it was quite popular when it was written leading me to believe it was written at that point because that’s when ballads were popular.
C. Slavery was still occurring in the U.S., industrialization was also occurring in the north.
Form:
A. The song follows an AABA structure. The first melody (A) is repeated (A) then a new melody is used (B), finally followed by the first melody (A).
Song Lyrics:
A. The song is about someone dreaming and longing for Jeanie with the light brown hair. Throughout the song he points out various good traits and other things to show her in a good light, and it seems she has recently left him because he says things like she is gone.
B. “Happy as the daisies that dance her way” and “ Floating, like vapor, on the soft summer air, among other lines shows that he holds her in the same regard as many features of nature.
Intertextuality:
A. The song makes me feel relaxed and makes me think of good times.
B. It reminds me of classical songs that I listen to to relax at some times.
