After graduation, Hendricks began her career as a web content specialist for Tighton Tools and Fasteners. She was responsible for creating and acquiring content for the company’s website and other communications media. In 2012, Hendricks left her current position to join TigerPaw Software. She served as marketing and social media coordinator. Her responsibilities include developing original content and suggesting creative ways to attract more customers and promote the brand. By using various forms of new media, such as blogging, social networking …show more content…
sites and search platforms, she helped represent the company through an online channel.
Hendricks has served as web content developer for Wichita State University from 2013 until now.
She is responsible for the development and execution of social media content across university’s Facebook and Twitter accounts with the aim to build brand awareness and enhance the university’s reputation locally, nationally and internationally. Creating content is the primary duty of her position. On Mondays, she works with her colleagues to create a social media content calendar. This calendar includes list of content should be published, people responsible for creating and publishing content, publishing dates and channels. Hendricks also provides one-on-one and group social media training for those who want to build a virtual network using social media platforms and then leverage that network to help grow their campaign or business.
Web content development is a hybrid of journalism and marketing, so it’s important that a content developer becomes skilled in both areas. Being good at writing but not marketing can mean your great content never gets noticed; being good at marketing but not at writing means you will fall short in presenting a content well. Communicating skills are also important because you should know the best ways to communicate with your
readers.
Working in the communications industry for seven years, Hendricks has a strong social media background. The key to social media content management is creating useful articles, images, videos and social media updates. Though educational content is often very successful, sometimes people want to consume content about something that interests them but won’t necessarily teach them something new. Besides, using popular hashtags and starting your own trend will engage the audience. The more people find your content, the more shares it will get. Finally, it’s best to write short and pointed content. There is nothing better than a brief, to-the-point post that is filled with information.
As her profession of web content development is something that I found to be a huge interest of mine. She made me realize the importance of creating a content calendar. It saves her time and keeps she organized and on track throughout her hectic workday. An effective content calendar allows her to plan content for important dates and ensures that she doesn’t end up scrambling. It also helps her establish a regular cadence for each of her social channels and stick to it. All the advice was very helpful and made me even more interested in becoming a content writer.
