Jim Braddock: An American Hero

Jim Braddock was an ‘American Hero' during the years of the Great Depression. In 1928 he was at the height of his career. But his boxing career began to go downhill from their, following sustaining major damage to his right hand. In 1929, Jim suffered a defeat to Tommy Loughran , in 15 heart wrenching rounds. From that point on Jim was never the same. That same year, the stock market crashed. By 1932, about one in four Americans were unemployed . In 1932, his luck began to change with an upset win against Corn Griffin and John Henry Lewis. On June 13th, 1935, Jim won the Heavy weight world championships from Max Bauer. Therefore, during the years of the Great Depression Jim Braddock was a true hero; because of his true determination
to fight until the end, the sacrifices that he made for his family, and by Succeeding after being down on luck.

Jim Braddock showed true determination when he kept boxing through the pain of his broken hand; and never gave up. He also sacrificed his health when he worked at the docks. Finally he succeeded after being down on his luck, as he started to win his boxing matches. Later going on to win the boxing world championships.

Therefore, Jim Braddock was a true ‘American Hero' during the Great Depression because of his strong determination he had, to keep pushing through the pain; sacrificing his own health to work, and by succeeding after being down on his luck, to win the world championships. In conclusion, Jim Braddock was a true hero for all the common men and women of America, during the Great Depression.
