Jn 3 Figurative Language

In the citation in Jn 3:3-10 between Jesus and Nicodemus of the spirit and the flesh there is a lot of meaning to the symbolic language used. Also this citation is very ironic. Some of this language is when they say “being born again”. This shows the symbolic meaning in the way that it is referring to baptism. These are relate because when you get baptized you are essentially born into the Catholic Church and recognized as a child of the Christian faith. This citation is ironic because Jesus is saying the born through baptism not physical birth. Also it is ironic how Nicodemus can be such a great teacher if he doesn’t get that birth means through baptism and not through physical death. So that is the symbolic meaning and irony comes into play in this citation.
The Teaching of Jesus in my opinion is meant to be interpreted in a figurative language. I believe this because in the scripture Jn 6:47-58 john talks about the last supper scene. This is said in a figurative language because it is not to be interpreted as the actual blood and flesh of Jesus. This citation contrasts the experience between the two because the blind man believes and the Pharisees don’t. The Pharisees saw things but never did anything to correct the wrongs because they didn’t believe and needed convincing. However the blind man believed no matter what and didn’t need convincing and therefore could see the word of god. Although this scripture uses a blind man the symbolic meaning of being blind is believing in the word of God and opening your eyes shows the symbol of open up to the father and believing in him.
