For this assignment career exploration, I looked into many job sites that were available on the BTC website. I found Work Source to be the easiest to navigate and gather information for the report about current Registered Nurse openings. I found that there are many positions available in this field, and most nursing jobs consist of similar responsibilities. Below, I will give a list of Job duties, responsibilities of a Registered Nurse, along with a list of education and experience that is required.
First, job duties and responsibilities for an entry level Registered Nurse include the following:
1. Provide direct patient care
2. Administer Meds.
3. Oversee LPN, Nursing Aides
4. Record patients’ medical history
5. Communicate effectively with others
6. Perform frequent patient evaluation
7. Paperwork reports on residents, known as charting
Next, qualifications, education and experience required:
1. Nursing degree
2. Licensed in WA State
3. Basic life support certification (BLS cert)
4. Criminal background checks
5. TB test
When going into the nursing field there are many different degrees that I could get. There is a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree, or I could just go with an Associate’s degree. You get a degree in what you chose. However to become a nurse it takes actually passing the RN test to obtain a certificate as a RN. Where you are placed in the field is normally determined by the degree one has. The scale of pay you start at is normally determined by the degree you have.
In my job search, I found that the basic duties of a Registered Nurse are the same for all positions in this field. There is a wide range of job openings in the health field when it comes to nursing. In the next ten years, the nursing field is expected to grow. This gives me confidence about choosing this field. I see how many openings there are along with the great pay. I would like to do a few job shadows in nursing to help me know where to focus when it comes
