John Banovich and the Influences of Art Art, no matter what kind, has a very overwhelming effect on people. Art shapes and inspires people every day and has for thousands of years. By the many exhibits, art schools and money we have invested in artwork we have around the world to this day, it is evident that people love art. Why? Art is an escape and we use it to express ourselves. It’s used to tell our story; to express the things we see and feel that we cannot say or have already said but people have not been listening. Expressing ourselves through art to send a message is our “second approach” and it proved successful; just look at John Banovich. Art affects each person differently, which is what …show more content…
makes art truly beautiful.
John Banovich is an American oil painter well-known for large and accurate paintings of wildlife.
Today, Banovich’s work can be found in museums and private collections. Banovich was born in Butte, Montana and emerged as a “talent to watch” in 1994 when his paintings were selected “Best of Show” two consecutive years at the Pacific Rim Art Expo, which is the showcase for wildlife art in the world. Critics consider Banovich to be among the top wildlife artists of his generation.
“Banovich has tried to be a wildlife art innovator in using his paintings to raise awareness about imperiled species.” (Biography of John Banovich)
He’s not doing it for the money; he is doing it to raise awareness. Banovich has created a voice, which is his art; which he believes speaks for itself.
"I learned that being an artist is more than creating good art; it involves sharing a vision and exploring ideas. Art can move, reveal and inspire people to seek a deeper understanding of the world around them. Art has the ability to paint a face on a region, a species and a cause." (Banovich)
John Banovich was discovered and then received international attention for his life size painting of an African elephant. This painting was called “Once upon a time” and was created to help draw attention to the growing plague of ivory poaching. The title of the painting was a tribute to the animals that once inhabited the …show more content…
Continent.
“The painting (Once Upon a Time) just reminds me so much of the real thing. It’s the details that count: the wrinkles on the tusk and brow, the clouds of dust rising from the massive feet, the birds scampering to avoid the charge. That’s like the real thing that you would see in Africa.” - Richard Childress, President/CEO of Richard Childress Racing
The Banovich Wildscapes Foundation (BWF) is a nonprofit organization of efforts to conserve the earth's wild places benefiting the wildlife and the people that live there.
It was founded in 2007 by John Banovich, and it’s the result of tireless conservation efforts over the past two decades. Throughout John’s career as an artist, he has been inspired and now has a deeper understanding of the world and its wildlife, which led to successful conservation efforts and the average citizen now being aware of endangered species and their habitats. By traveling around the world to be inspired for a new piece, John uses his opportunities and resources to research wildlife and to learn about related conservation challenges on different levels. Through his career, artwork and his publishing company, Banovich Art has been proved to be effective in creating ways to help implement and support conservation programs and is utilizing his imagery to promote a message of wildlife preservation and to initiate real change. This shows that his organization is actually making a
difference.
“I started the Banovich Wildscapes Foundation as a way to give something back to the world that has given so much to me. The name ‘WILDSCAPES’ refers to large abundant landscapes…wild, balanced and intact ecosystems. There is nothing more important to future generations than wildlife and wild lands. Special places that lift our minds replenish our spirits and renew our passion for living." - John Banovich
From the Banovich Wildscapes Foundation, money made through artwork sales has been sent to support grassroots conservation efforts that protect habitats, wildlife management and tourism. Over the years, the foundation and its partners have raised millions of dollars. In other words, John banovich was not just an artist. He was passionate about the animals he drew and gave over half of his earnings to help the conservation efforts be successful.
“Now more than ever, we need to expand the message about the vital importance of the world’s natural places and utilize the forceful role that artists can leverage in the efforts to conserve them. Through my artwork, I hope to move, reveal and inspire people to seek a deeper understanding of the world around us and bring together groups of individuals to unite on a common ground. Our natural world is severely threatened and with this increased pressure, a new paradigm must emerge...artists, conservationists, sportsmen and environmentalists must come together in areas of overlapping interests." – John Banovich
His artwork is loved internationally and has made quite an influence on the critics and the general public. Everything that John Banovich paints has a purpose. His artwork shows the whole word how important it is that we conserve these animals in danger, and his goal is to bring everyone together to do just that. I believe that Banovich knows how much of an influence art has on Americans, and that this was the way to get his message across. He believes that his art portrays a message and he wants everyone to be knowledgeable about wildlife conservation issues and ways to help, which he tells through his books and shows through his artwork.
As stated before the painting of “Once upon a time” raised awareness to stop poachers from taking elephant tusks. Now, not only did this painting help the elephants by developing laws on the illegalization of poaching in certain areas, but several other animals benefited from this. Banovich has traveled throughout the world to gather reference for his art and to promote conservation projects.
In conclusion, His art is helping animals, Art does have an influence, and John Banovich is the perfect example of that. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about animals and their survival that he dedicated his like to painting them and portraying them the way they really are. Art draws you by appealing to your emotions, and then you become interested encouraging you to learn more about it. The most common of the influences is inspiration. The inspiration that art has affects everyone in different ways. “That's the magical thing about art--everyone experiences it differently and therefore, it influences everyone differently” (Prather eHow).
