2. My favorite part of John Henry would be how he ready to die to provide. He told the Captain that he would be willing to do any job just to support his family. He worked himself to death in the mine doing everything he could. They buried him next to the tracks that he was working so hard to build. He died broke, but left a legacy of being a steel driving man.
3. The Civil War and the political and the end of slavery influenced this song. With the Civil War ending, along with many other conflicts around the globe, there was a great move back to exploration and mapping the world. This was written during the transcontinental railroad being built across the United States. There were
many people that died during the construction of the railroad, and most were buried alongside the tracks. A lot of the people that built the railroad were underpaid and mistreated. They would have to move in tent cities or build small towns along the way, bringing their families with them.
