John Hooker was a man of few words, but the few he had spoken painted a bigger picture on what the radio was like from the 1930’s-40’s. In the interview, Mr. Hooker was ask several questions to which he was to respond to. Being the radio, the questions he answered were about the music and programs that were created during this time period. The way he answered them surely brought light to something amazing of the past, as well as leaving Mr. Hooker with a lovely feeling of nostalgia.

Hooker was questioned about what he thought the most famous singer or music group was, at that time. He responded and said it was “probably Frank Sinatra or Bing Crosby, they were the big pop stars.” Frank Sinatra was an singer whose music is considered as ageless, he was also one of the most influential singers at that time. Bing Crosby was also a singer who had a trademark soft, deep voice that made him the best selling record artist of the 20th century. Mr. Hooker also mentioned that there were good music programs as well like Phil Spitalny and His All Girl Orchestra and The Firestone Hour that were less like pop music and more classical. Phil Spitalny, a musician and composer, rose to fame with his all female orchestra,which was seen as a novelty at the time. The Firestone Hour was a long running program of classical music, which featured leading singers in opera and operetta. When asked about his favorite singer and song, he said he didn’t have one, and he didn’t know why. Later, after the interview, he finally remembered why he didn’t have a favorite. He said that he didn’t like how all the songs were about love because he didn’t understand it. So he just never really cared for that kind of
