to go traveled like his father did. That didn’t stop him from completing his education and continuing with his life. During this paper I will do an analysis on his personality from a psychological point of view. Looking though childhood and adulthood life to see how he truly was. We will see what John F. Kennedy mental status and the dilemma he has to faces. The psychologist that I will use to answer this question about his personality will be Alfred Adler, Karen Horney, Sigmund Freud, and Abraham Maslow how are well-known for their theories on human personality.

He had the support of his grandfather how favorite his out of all the other Kennedy children. Joseph had everything John what it, affection from his parent and grandparent, health, support, and a normal life. Even with is illness John was describe as rebel in the biography Choate high school headmaster said he was “one of the most undependable”, “lacked application”, and was “carless” (John F.
Kennedy, 2012, page 9). John have friends, friends how said her was charming, cheerful, and funny. He was also a playboy just like his father who had numerous of mistress before and after marriage. John still behaved like a teenage boy, going through puberty. At Harvard he was much the same he couldn’t play any sports but he still try out for them. During his in Washington John meet Inga Arvad from the Danish Journalist, they have a serious romance. She was older them him and was divorce woman, how had rumors of being a spy. Inga worked in Germany was a photographer taking pictures of Hitler and Goring. Once his father found out of this he encourage for his son to be transfer to Navy Yard at Charleston, South Carolina. His relationship with Inga ended painfully bad. Kennedy got to command the PI 109 in 1943 when the boat crew was attack leaving them boat less in the water.
After some days they got rescue, John F. Kennedy was talk about his “Heroism” even though it was his fault. His families especially his father fixes it to make him sound like a hero. John said with his mouth close and didn’t disagree, he want it the fame. After the attack he couldn’t go back because health was deteriorating again, his back was failing him after all the operations and treatment his done, he was send home. On August 12, 1944 his brother Joseph F. Kennedy Jr died in Germany after being bomber, his body was never recovered. The death of Joseph affected him family but it affected Joseph Sr. and John the most. John wrote a book in his brother honor called “As we Remember Joe”. Even after all them disagreement, jealousy, and companion for their father attention John still loved his brother. After that loss of his brother John traveled and get drew into the world of diplomacy and politics. When his return to the United States he got into politics, even with his father Joseph Sr. was very doubtful of his second son political ability. But he still encourages him to continue with
it.
And that was all the encouragement he need it, despise his illness John was intelligent, charming, and sociable figure. He had a good background in education, and with his serving his country in the Navy that helped him a lot. It was during 1947 is Health got worse on a trip to Europe, this is when a physician recognized his symptoms. John F. Kennedy was suffering from Addison’s disease, a very rare and dangerous disorder that is a product of adrenal glands not producing adequate hormones. The treatment was called Cortisone; the only sided affects are small pain, tan ruby skin and increase in sexual appetite. He had many mistresses even after marrying Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953, in 1957 Caroline Bouvier Kennedy born. He seek sexual partner everywhere it is said that many of his mistress were models, movie stars, high-end call girl. His most fames affair was with Marilyn Monroe.
John F. Kennedy become president on November 8, 1960, that same mouth is son John F. Kennedy Jr. was born on November 20. On January 20 1961 John was sworn as president of this United States. It’s not known but John F. Kennedy had two other children a daughter Arabella Kennedy who was born stillborn and a son Patrick Bouvier Kennedy born August 7 and died August 9 1963. Months after on November 22, 1963 Kennedy was assassinated while riding through the street of Dallas, Texas.
Why was John F. Kennedy relationship with his father Joseph P. Kennedy and brother Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was so burdensome?
John F. Kennedy troublesome relationship with his father had to do with the fact that Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. preferred his first son Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Who was heir to the Kennedy legacy and the one that everyone had their hope on becoming president. Unlike John, Joseph didn’t suffer from any illnesses that prevent him from being a normal Irish American citizen. Joseph Sr. John father was a successful and ruthless American businessman who was an investor, he made a great fortune. He traveled a lot which lead him away from his family and created trouble in John parent’s marriage. Karen Horney will say this created Basic Hostility and Anxiety in JFK, his parents lack in giving his genuine love. Leading to John to create Neurotic Trends and searching for Neurotic Needs to me met.
Horney’s theory circles around her personal life and how she was able to deal with her life challenge. Neurosis is how people handle and control personal issues that happen on a day to day basic. Other theory is Psychoanalysis how a person can influence others person personalities. And last Inner Conflicts the ability to be a decent person, that change is possible in a human being. But I focus more is on basic hostility and anxiety because John as a child experience it more so them his brothers and sisters. Karen Danielsen Horney herself went through a similar situation like John F. Kennedy, the feeling of being unloved and unwanted. Horney will say that John lack of relationship with his father was because of basic hostility and anxiety, it is coming for the
lack of satisfying John’s need as a child for love and safety. During his time at the hospitals John as a child must have felt scared and insecure having different doctor around, and not one of did he know them. It’s some everyone searches for at the beginning of life because it’s in our nature to want to be safe and love. Horney believes” the primary condition responsible for late development of Neurosis was the infant’s experience of basic anxiety, which the child felt” isolated and helpless in a potentially hostile world “(Karen Danielsen, 2013. P 3). JFK relationship was his brother Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was base and created by their father. How had a preferred for Joseph Jr. because he was not ill like John. Adler would have probable view this as Birth Order problem, because they are highly competitive. Joseph held hostility for his brother and always seems to fight for acceptance even through had had it. John in his eyes was taking attention from him because of his illness. If we look at the Adler’s View of Some Possible Traits by Birth Order we can see that JFK and Joseph Jr. seem to follow some of those traits. Alfred Adler Individual Psychology has to do with people being motivated by social aspect that influence people strive for superiority or success. He believes everyone is responsible for their action and for how they are. A person behavior is shaped by how that person sees their future. So that means that a person how is psychology healthy are aware of what they are doing and why. Adler’s view of some possible traits by birth order can somehow help us understand John and Joseph sibling competiveness. For Joseph you can see that some of the negative traits are alike. Traits such as unconscious hostility which in the book said that they brother didn’t get along, and maybe it because Joseph felt strong hostility for John. He probably that John gets all the attention because of his illness. Other will be exaggerated feeling of power, maybe or maybe not Joseph felt the by being better in everything John he had power over him. As for John the negative trait that that stands out was high competitive which anyone that read the biography will see. All his life trying to be like or better them his brother. John going to the Navy was in a way to compete with his brother how was already serving his country. His competitiveness and Joseph hostility lead them to not getting along like the sibling they were. How did his trouble childhood (Family and Health) influences his school achievement or lack of achievement?
John F. Kennedy debilitating illness (later found out to be Assison’s Disease) impaired him from being an active young man. He was physical weak and always in the hospital to play any athletic games or to continue with his education. With be sick all the time JFK missed a lot of academic materiel and the chances to have a normal physical life outside with friends. His brother Joseph was the opposite he was athletic and has great grades. When JFK was place in in a school environment he still didn’t achieve much because of be hospitalize he didn’t know how to write decent papers. I think this created as Maslow would as a Jonah Complex. John was scared of one his best because he thought he was never going to as good as his brother Joseph. John fear influence his life in almost all his aspect. His education, his ability to believe in himself.
Maslow Hierarchy of Needs is the believe that people have the ability to grow in their life time. There are level people must reach to order to achieve a health psychological mind.
The Jonah Complex is they fear of being ones best, and that is something John K. Kennedy you can sense his was facing. Fear of putting himself out there for everyone to see. Specially his family how lab his as weak and had no potential to succeed or survived his life threatening illness. Did his relationship with his mother influence his playboy ways and maybe attraction intelligent older women?
John F. Kennedy was describe to be a very sexual person, that it was his way of feeling less weak and more masculine. He had many sexual partners like Marilyn Monroe (movie stars), models, and some of his relative’s friend. He was a playboy all though his life, even when he was married to his wife Jacqueline Bouvier. Alan Brinkley said that his sexual appetite was a side effect of the cortisone that was part of his treatment for Addison’s disease. His father Joseph Sr. was the same, he had multiple mistresses. So I think that were John get that it was okay such a playboy, but then again that something women in those times had to live with. Sigmund Freud psychoanalytic theory sex and aggression are the main cornerstones of psychoanalytic. Human personality is primarily developed by the relationship with patents. His believe that for most the time we are unconscious of what we remember/dream or need. Suppression feelings and memory, experiences that we view as bad. I think that John Kennedy hides his desires for a real mother through his may sexual partner. Searching for something,
anything that will make him feel love and safe like his mother should have made him feel when he was about to into an operation or when he was in pain. Or when doctor would tell me that he may not survive and that his chance of dying at a young age was very high. Inga Arvad an older woman who John fell for during his time at the Navy Intelligence in Washington. She was intelligent, divorce woman how was older and more experience them him, which made even more attractive. Maybe he thought that by being with Inga he could filed the empty space his mother did not what to fil in. That she will somehow show him the love and acceptation he did not get from him mother. John was a playboy because without knowing he was search for that mother without knowing, unconscious, if you will say. Satisfy is desire to be loved and cared for.
Conclusion
John F. Kennedy was one of the most memorable presidents in history. Known because he really cared about the citizens of the United States. He did not let his Addison disease affect his life in any way. John shows to the people that strong will, mind set on a goal, and hope for a better tomorrow you can achieve anything. He successful was able to affect and change many life’s, by giving the opportunity to be more.
