Abigail, John Proctor and Parris.
Abigail plays a big role in the play as kind of an antagonist. Abbigail is involved with
John in doing sexual things with him even though he has a wife. Abigail says “ I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near! Or did I dream that? ItNs she put me out, you cannot pretend it were you. I saw your face when she put me out, and you loved me then and you do now!”. After doing things with John, as the quote says, John's wife finds out and fires abigail. Goody Proctor, John's wife also spreads the news about Abigail to the other wives so none of the other wives will hire her and think badly of her. This ruins Abigail's reputation and makes her out to get back at people. Another person that is concerned with their reputation is John Proctor. After the incident with Abigail he was at risk of people finding out about what he did if his wife told. If his wife told then he would get in serious trouble for lechery and his reputation would be ruined. Parris was the preacher of the town and his daughter had become ill and was being accused of witchcraft. Parris says, “ No - no. There be no unnatural cause here. Tell him I have sent for Reverend Hale of Beverly, and Mr. Hale will surely confirm that. Let him look to medicine and put out all thought of unnatural causes here. There Be none.” As you can see from this quote is is very concerned that people might think his daughter is bewitched. If she is then that would give him a very bad name and completely ruin his reputation as a
