This reflection is based on the psychosis video that I watched on Blackboard. This reflective essay is to provide how my perspective changes and what brings those changes, after watching the video and reflecting upon my previous experiences, using John’s reflection model. John’s structured reflection model provides chances to healthcare practitioners to reflect upon one’s own lived experiences, which brings about a changed perspective and empowerment to achieve effective desirable practice (Johns 1995). Cooper and Liz are having a chat, drinking something in white mugs. Liz started conversation with David by telling him what Ms. Cooper told her about him being stressed out at work. Liz referred Ms. Cooper as Kathy from this point. David said he has been struggling, touching his ear. David also referred Ms. Cooper as Kathy and told Liz he has been involved in the big international merge, which caused stress, scratching his left thumb with his index finger. He also said, “In the Sunday morning paper, I could read a column through codes.” Liz asked if he could elaborate it further. David said people have been following him and there were cameras and new lights in the room to monitor him, and he also worried that Kathy had been infiltrated. Kathy said, “we talked about this,” and told him lights were not new. Liz asked if David was concerned about Kathy’s or his safety. He said Kathy has been compromised and involved with people monitoring him and Liz was one of them, and he had great concern for his safety. Kathy tried to convince David that she always supports David and would not betray him. Liz explained that she was a mental health team member, and asked David if it was hard for David to trust people. David said he did not trust anyone.
Liz asked how he personally deals with stress. He said he has been drinking six to seven stubbies a night. Kathy said that was more than what David normally drinks. David said he did not have energy, he was over with this situation and said, “I cannot live like a stranger.” Kathy repeated what he said, looking surprised to hear him.
