Joseph Gould: A Conceptual Analysis
As a future educator, professional knowledge is at the core of teaching practice. A teacher must know the curriculum, their students and how it will inform their teaching practice. Teachers need to do more than just know the curriculum; they need to live it so they become engaged with the ongoing learning processes.
I believe that it is important for teachers to get to know their students; they should know their students are learners and people. When we know our students, we are able to take students from what they know to what they don't know. Teachers who know how their students learn can help them navigate and grow in their learning. At the beginning of my six-week placement at Joseph Gould, I had the opportunity to attend a Building

It is essential for teachers to understand student growth and development. Teachers need to understand how their own students grow. Teachers also need to understand what adaptations their students need. This is very important for all students, but especially for their students who are gifted or have special needs. In order for any teacher to do this, they must understand the growth of their students.…

A major component of my philosophy of education in general is the need to build meaningful relationships with students. I am firm in my beliefs that students must feel a personal connection to their teachers. When mutual trust and respect between students and teachers flourishes, two important phenomena occur. First, teachers are able to allow students more freedom and independence in the learning process, without worrying that classroom management will be compromised by a particular activity. In addition, students develop a positive attitude toward the class, and feel assured that the learning that takes place on a daily basis will be understandable, fun and…

I feel that this is so important. I also feel that my host teacher tries to fix problems rather than fix her students; she tries to find the good in every student even if they drive her nuts. It is important to teach students that they are good in different ways; this helps make for a better learning environment. As my host teacher made the effort to get to know her students, she was able to praise or connect with her students on that level when they were having a difficult day. By knowing your students and have conversations about those interests helps make the students feel good and feel like the teacher cares about them.…

During the pursuit of my degree, I was very fortunate to have an array of different teachers with different teaching styles and different philosophies. However, I was fortunate to have had a few very special teachers who passionately touched my life and whom I’ll never forget. Their contributions and works are quite an inspiration in my career. In putting together this philosophy my purpose is to put together a philosophy that stands on a plan that I believe will most successfully engage real world learning. I strongly believe that engaging students in real-life lessons and hands on activities gives you an opportunity as an educator to make problem-solvers, creators, doers, thinkers, leaders, etc. This will promote life-long learning, and learning for future.…

Teaching is a profession that never ceases to evolve. Learning is on a continuum and educators are the ones who strive to capture the most valuable knowledge and pass it from one generation to the next. “You cannot make a difference in the lives of your students until you make a difference in your own life.” (H. Wong & R. Wong, 2004) This philosophy encompasses what it means not only to be an effective teacher but also what it means to be a successful and distinguished individual in society. These are the kind of people that you look up to and can use as a role model in life. People find comfort in an individual who cares about the future and impacting the lives of younger children for generations to come.…

Recent studies in the United States shown that curriculum implementation can only be successful if teachers and communities are involved in the development and implementation of curriculum and structural changes.(Arend Carl, 2005) While addressing the need of the learners which is the primary concern of the curriculum, teachers should be one of the principal role-players in the process of addressing these challenges.…

I’ve been working as a teacher for a year and four months now. Yet my understanding of being a teacher is still evolving day by day. I realized that how I understood this profession was not yet substantial until I was immersed in the actual teaching scenario. I realize that the books, lectures, and inputs given by my college professors, when I was just an education student, are just spectacles of what is in store for me.…
