People have a habit of placing their own lives before others. Because of this we are much more willing and able to commit acts of evil if it keeps us alive or furthers our own agenda. An example of this is Hannibal of Carthage, who crossed the Alps to march onwards to Rome. This Carthaginian general was obsessed with completing the task given to him by his father to destroy Rome, and he devoted his life to it. What takes someone's ability and tendency to do evil, and actually causes them to do something truly horrific? While this does somewhat rely on a person’s upbringing, some scientist say that there are certain genetics involved that cause some people to be more prone to doing bad things. Furthermore, statistics show that the vast majority of psychopaths are males, and only a very small percent are females. Also a lack of empathy, from a neglect or abuse filled childhood also causes a person to be able to do something horrid, and have no regret for their actions. In the end everyone has the capacity to do evil, and everyone has a tendency to do it, even if it’s not mass murder, because no one is a perfectly good person with a perfect childhood. Everyone is born able to do bad things, and they will, the severity will differ from one person to another, but everyone does something horrible at some point.
