Journal Entry (P7-4k2)
Grasping the little girl I ran and ran, forcing myself not to look back. They were following me, chasing me, never giving up. This was to the death. Suddenly all was silent. No more did I hear bloody battle cries screamed by the monsters in their hideous language, or even the thud of their heavy feet hitting the metallic floor on which we stood. Finally, I stopped. I turned. And suddenly all went black.

I am Clone P7-4K2, a pilot-in-training (PIT for short) in the Blaze Squadron. Once the rest of the youth and I are fully trained, we will join the rest of the squadron as we use our strengths, as well as special hand-crafted weapons, to rid the universe of Things. What, you may ask, are Things? They are the worst of all the monsters in the universe, and their home planet is Base K. The PITs have trained

We hadn’t had children on P1 since 2089, WAY before I was cloned. All the fighters and residents here are cloned around age 18, and grow older from there. This child looked to be about 7 years old, and had curly red hair and freckles. She wore a green tank top that had a picture of an odd creature on it, probably an animal. Those had all gone extinct centuries ago. Suddenly I was frozen between two options. I wanted to show off my newly-acquired Bravery and Fight like the soldier I was meant to be. However, I also wanted to help the small girl cowering in the corner. Weighing the pros and cons of each option, I realized that while going back out to fight would help save the Clone community from destruction, the little girl needed help. However, before I could make my final decision, the door to the bunkroom burst open and a group of Things plunged in, determined to rid the building of all life except their own. The Things were standing in the doorway, and there was no other escape. With no other choice, I grabbed the child and

In a few years from now, I would really like to open up some sort of cafe, specifically a boba shop. I would like for it to be located in California, specifically Southern California so it can compete with other boba shops. The menu would be filled with a variety of milk teas, flavored teas, and lattes that can be paired with various toppings such as boba, grass jelly, egg pudding, different popping boba flavors, and an array of different fruit jellies. I would also like to serve small desserts on the side, such as macarons, mille crepe cakes, and brick toast. As for the cafe itself, I would like for it to have a cozy yet minimalistic vibe from the decor. In other terms, white…

The short story, “The Things They Carried”, by Tim O’brien, was my favorite reading of this week. The author states what the company is carrying, as well as emotional burdens that they carry. I think that theme of this story can be summarized as “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. As I stated in the discussion, I think this story makes a profound point about trauma and emotional stress. Physical burdens are easily observable. For example, when people see someone in a wheelchair their thoughts are most likely automatically sympathetic. However, when people see someone having a panic attack they might just assume that the person is overreacting. Nobody knows what emotional burdens someone holds. Therefore, it is wrong to judge people on appearance alone and assume that one knows the full story.…

I find great interest in the Egyptian culture. The culture goes back through time. Sayre (2013) stated, “Egypt’s continuous cultural tradition—lasting over 3,000 years—is history’s clearest example of how peace and prosperity go hand in hand with cultural stability” (p. 28).…

In order to speak on Humanities, there must be a clear view on what the meaning of it is. Humanities are a clear investigation of human beings and how they act, which includes their self-expression and their culture. The purpose of this paper is to explain how humanities replicate changing concepts of life and individuals in diverse historical periods. In today's civilization, human beings are ignorant to the history of our people. Our ancestors have contributed too many areas that we participate in frequently. The result of researching humanities provides us with a better understanding of where individuals have been and where it is important to go. By basing our future off history, allows us to work towards improvements that will produce positive results and circumstances in today’s time.…

When I was in high school I wasn't a very good student. I really didn't apply myself to anything. I had no dreams of going to college or doing anything special with my life. No one had ever encouraged me to do any better than I was or to try harder. My parents were not college graduates, they both had full time jobs plus nine kids to raise. I knew that there wasn't any money to send me to college, and my guidance counselor never explained to me about financial aid. I graduated, got a job and worked one dead end job after another until I got married and started a family. I spent the next fifteen years raising my daughter and encouraging her education. About a year ago my husband decided he wanted a divorce and I was left wondering; “What am I going to do now?” Since graduation I have regretted not going to college, I have always wanted to work with children, either as a counselor or in social work. My parents suggested that maybe I look into going back to school. I applied at Southern New Hampshire University and I was admitted. My first reaction was that I'm going to fail, I started by taking two classes every eight weeks and to my surprise I didn't fail and I loved it. I had to take some time off to finalize the divorce and when I was mentally ready I applied to Ashford. I started last year thinking that I was going to fail and realized that if I try hard enough I can achieve my goals. I'm not scared of failing anymore, I am however afraid of letting myself down for not trying hard enough, and for me that isn't good enough anymore. I want better for myself and I want to look in the mirror everyday and be proud of who I see.…

I dreamt of the rain. The same rain that filled my entire childhood. The same cold rain that showered down on the alleyways that I hid in, sloughing the grime off the walls and into whatever small crevice I would have been hiding in. I dreamt of the same drops of rain that poured like stones, the same stones that were thrown at the many beggars, like myself, living in the winding narrow streets of Aquillum. I found myself walking down the same paths I used to walk and beg in, the same narrow winding passageways I used to evade any furious shopkeepers who would desperately search for the sewer child who stole their wares.…

In the passage “The Men We Carry in Our Minds,” by Scott Russel Sanders he discusses his view on men and women. The quote above has a meaning that goes deeper than gender roles, but in this particular passage the meaning is that the way one perceives women and men is all about their experiences with women and men in their throughout their lives. The authors perception on men is different than those of the women in his class because the women in his class have fathers who hold more prestigious jobs, such as doctors and lawyers, and his father worked his way up to a job where he didn’t have to get his hands dirty. The father’s hardwork paid off when he had his higher, less demanding position, but his body gave out on him completely before he reached the age of sixty-five, as written in the passage.…

My name is Guy Johanson, and I am a sophomore Music Education major at the Setnor School of Music. I am originally from Liverpool, NY, just outside of Syracuse. I have been involved with Syracuse University since the time I was in middle school participating in youth ensembles playing the French Horn and the Oboe. Currently I am a member of the Syracuse University Marching Band, Tau Beta Sigma (the national band sorority), and am usually playing with many ensembles around campus. I work at Old Navy in Destiny USA during school breaks, while during the school year I work at the Cathedral Academy at Pompey as an after school music program teacher. My strongest skill that I possess, I believe, is my ability to time manage. Throughout the past year and a half, I have learned to balance 19+ credits, sorority involvement, and working two jobs during the year.…

The event that most interested me was the slave trader video. How they took a prince and broke him. He still was able to survive and still run a plantation just like the tribe he was from. It must take a lot of self will to survive in the conditions they were put in on the boat, then to get off and still be no better than cattle. Though slavery was equally as tragic and traumatic for black men and women, the experience of slavery affected them in different ways. "Depending upon their age and gender, slaves were assigned a particular task, or tasks, that had to be completed during the course of the day." In certain settings, men would participate in the hard labor, such as working on the farm, while women would generally work in the household. They would "be sent out on errands, but in most cases their jobs required that they spend much of their time within their owner's household." These gender distinctions were mainly applied in the Northern colonies and on larger plantations. In Southern colonies and smaller farms, however, women and men typically engaged in the same roles, both working in the tobacco crop fields.…
