During the Speech at Creating Change 2014, Laverne
Cox advocates for more acceptance toward colored, transgendered people in both cultural and political society, while also encourages LGBQT groups to have love for themselves and support for each other. Facing a understanding audience, Cox not only reveals her own pain from the past for being a victim of violence and injustice, but also described inspiring stories from CeCe McDonald and Jowlyes Gutierrez, implying that both mainstream media and criminal justice system are unjustly designed against transgendered people, therefore resulting a biased and prejudice culture.
Both Hill and Cox have a value system, so they build their arguments on the ground that 1) sexual harassment causes pain in one person and therefore should not be allowed, and 2) transgendered people has no flaws in themselves and should be treated equally with everyone else. However, their audiences are quite different, so Hill has to establish her credibility as an educated, unbiased person in front of the court, while Cox can appeals to her audience’s emotion because they all have same experience as unrepresented minority, and are all struggling and fighting toward a common goal.
