The Civil War was a war between Julius Caesar and Pompey. The war began in January 49 BC and went on and lasted until the year 45 BC. At the beginning of the war a letter was read out loud to the senate and it was the start of a new presidency of the new consul, Lucius Claudius Lentulus. One of the battles in the war was in a town called IIerda which is located on a river. This battle began and was not leading to clear conclusion. Caesar and his army were in trouble because of severe flooding and having a small food supply. The first battle that is on the sea is in the town of Massilia in June 49. Caesar ships are not built that well built and they were outnumbered and the battle was also not leading to a clear conclusion. In the town of IIerda Caesar's army is doing better. On August 2, Caesar and his army cut off their enemy from fuel, water, and food. The Pompeian army led by Afranius and Petreius surrendered. Caesar showed great leniency to his troops. Trebonius, Caesar’s legatus, conducts siege operations against Massilia. Massilia is the second sea battle in the Civil War. Varro surrenders to Caesar in a town further Spain called Hispania Ulterior. Caesar gets Pompey to go to to Egypt and gets involved in a war between Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII.
