Julius Caesar-Hero Or Brute?
Brutus - Hero or Brute (as his name seems to imply)? Brutus one of the main characters in the play, Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Brutus on the one hand seems to truly be a good person who wants the best for his beloved Rome and on the other had he almost seems jealous of Caesar. Did he actually love Caesar and simply loved Rome more or was he actually a jealous and revengeful person?

Brutus is one of my favorite characters in this play. He seems to really love his city and wants nothing more than to protect it from another tyrant like Rome had suffered before at the hands of kings. He is a most honorable man. His patriotism is beyond reproach. There is no other who would willingly betray someone that he loved and who was his best friend Caesar loved him like his own son, for the good of his country. I believe that Brutus was a hero even if he was a tragic hero a hero he remains. If it were me I would not be able to betray and murder my best friend for my country. This is why he was said at his death to "be the most honorable man in all of Rome".

Even his name suggests that he was indeed capable of revenge and jealousy and murder. On the one hand maybe he wanted to be emperor of Rome and just looked at Caesar as if he was getting too greedy by the power he held. On the other hand maybe he just got swayed into following those who were truly jealous of the power that Caesar held and they wanted his death so that they could take over. I am leaning that he was jealous of his best friend and used the excuse that Caesar would become a tyrant and ruin his beloved Rome. When in fact it was Brute(us) who wanted to run the country and hold all the power for himself. Jealousy, Rivalry and Revenge are very powerful ideas to lead you to murder someone. Maybe instead of actually loving Caesar he in fact hated him? Only he was better at hiding it than the others who took part in his death

There is a large amount of differences between the play interpretation of Julius Caesar and what really happened. For instance, Brutus in the play was extremely different than real life Brutus. In the play, he was best friends with Caesar-well, until he killed him. However, in real life, Brutus hated Caesar. He was never supportive of Caesar, and truthfully never loved him.(Musaj and Prezi Inc.) In Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, he uses Brutus’s strong love of Rome, his honor, and his willing to do anything for the good of Rome to show that Brutus is the tragic hero.…

Our beloved Caesar was shredded from this world by the daggers of hatred and it was Marcus Brutus, who claimed to love the man that led to this tragic murder. Brutus and the conspirators begged that Caesar was killed for the greater good of Rome, and for the benefit of the people, but Caesar was beloved by all. “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (3.2.23) ; being viewed as a noble man among the Roman people proved to be more important to Brutus than to be a good man to someone who he had called his friend.. They were all simply jealous men who could not stand to continue to be overshadowed by the light of greater men’s triumphs. He would never continue the cruelty shown by Rome’s first ruler whom we so feared and hated; there was no reason for Caesar to die. Caesar had owned all of his accolades and was punished for doing so. He was a strong man, becoming the head of his house at age 16, being ousted from the country by Sulla, being captured by pirates and later crucifying them after his release. “I could be well moved, if I were as you; “If I could pray to move, prayers would move me but I am constant as the Northern Star, Of whose true-fixed and resting quality / There is no fellow in the firmament.” (3,1, 63). Caesar expresses how he would be a stable leader for the Romans. He has gone through the trials of war and exile and emerged a stronger man. Caesar has suffered through his life, and to be betrayed by those he trusted is worse than the pain he suffered in death. Although Brutus stands at trial this day it should be noted that he did not act alone. Numerous members of the senate were involved in this heinous act and should be met with the same fate that should happen Brutus; namely the manipulative Gaius Cassius Longinus. These men were meant to serve the republic and the glory of Rome, yet shamed it by staining the floor of the senate with the blood of Rome’s favored son. Caesar gave numerous political reforms and was beloved by his…

Furthermore there is more to say that brutus embodied good. Why because the decision he had to make was a tough one. He dearly loved caesar and caesar loved him, Even after killing caesar and washing his hands with his blood. Brutus still felt responsible after his death and to the public. He feared that his friend would be crowned king which would go against the ideals of the roman republic. Brutus defends his actions’’ If there be any in this assembly, And dear friend of caesar's, to him i say that brutus love to caesar was no less than his. If then that friend demand why brutus rose against caesar, this is my answer: not that i loved caesar less, but that i loved.’’ (3.2 19-24) This shows it was hard for brutus to kill caesar.…

Many people saw Brutus as a great man, who did what was right for all. His first love was to Rome. During his speech at Caesar's funeral, he said “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (3.2.21-22). This shows how he was willing to do everything he could for Rome, even if it means taking his own life which he also states in his speech. He explains why Caesar was assassinated; because he was too ambitious. Brutus tells the horrified onlookers that "Ambition's debt is paid", indicating…

The first major quality of a tragic hero is a rapid ascent to power or glory. This is done by Brutus as he joins the conspiracy and murders Julius Caesar. One powerful quote that describes how Brutus felt towards Caesar whilst he took power of Rome is as follows “As Caesar lov'd me, I weep for him/ as he was fortunate, I rejoice at it/ as he was valiant, I honor him, but, as he was ambitious, I slew him” (III, ii, 26-29). This tells the story of how Brutus needed to kill his best friend, Caesar, in order to better Rome. Through this act, he gained power of the government and people, and was thought of as a very noble man.…

Brutus may have said that his actions were for the good of all of Rome, but even a villain can backup his motifs. “Brutus: If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (Act 3: Scene II: Lines 20-24). During the end of the play, Mark Antony, the leader of the opposing army and Caesar's friend, admitted Brutus as being the Noblest Roman of them all: “Antony: This was the noblest Roman of them all. All the conspirators save only he Did that they did in envy of great Caesar; He only, in a general honest thought and common good to all, made one of them.” (Act V: Scene 5: Lines 68-72). Brutus did believe that his actions were for the good of the people and what he was doing was for the good, but that was where he strayed off of the path of justice.…

Julius Caesar is dangerous. Very dangerous. He thinks that he is a god and is oppressive and insane. If you believe you are a god, you can lead yourself to do dangerous things. Julius once said, “I like treason, not traitors.” That just proves his lack of sanity. The definition of treason is “the crime of betraying one's country”. The definition of traitor is”a person who betrays a friend, country, principle, etc.”. There the same thing! If you betray your country by making yourself a dictator for life, you are also a traitor by turning you back on the rest of the government. The reason he was killed is because he betrayed his friends, even though they were senators he treated them like dirt. He deserved to die. If you think that you're a god,…

Julius Caesar is very much a warrior and he thinks that he is above every one else and that he is more than an ordinary man. As a result he is very arrogant and takes very little notice of the people around him. As far as he is concerned, they are meaningless and not worth his time. He believes he is honourable but really is not. In a way he wants to be trusted and to be a trusted leader of the Roman people but he is very unwilling to do anything to gain trust.
