Essay: “Is Junk Food Really Cheaper?” I am writing a response to the essay titled “Is Junk Food Really Cheaper.” Mark’s main argument is that junk food is not always cheaper than real and may be convenient but it is not the healthiest choice to make. The counterargument is that yes junk food is not cheaper than real food but for most people it’s just more convenient and not as time consuming as cooking a healthy meal at home. Many people say it’s time consuming because it’s a process to get dinner on the table if you actually have to cook it. So a lot of Americans like to take the easy way out.
He feels that it’s not whether or not it is good for him but it’s changing how he feels. He says we change how people feel by changing the environment. This could be pathos and logos because he has an emotional appeal to the subject of obesity and unhealthy eating. Logos also pertains to this statement because the logic is if you want to see a change you have to step forth and change it yourself; For example instead of advertising Mcdonald’s, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, etc. advertise the Vegetable section in Publix, or the meat sections.
Mark’s point of view of this subject is that junk food is neither cheaper or healthier than Buying food from the market or store and cooking it at home. He uses ethos by telling us why junk food is not cheaper. He uses an image showing junk food versus a home cooked meal and the prices pertaining to each. For a meal at Mcdonald’s for 4-5 people it cost $27.89, if they added another cheeseburger it would be almost $30. In contrast a home cooked meal for 4-5 people is cost $13.78 which is a little under half of what the Mcdonald’s cost. He uses this to say that it’s not cheaper to purchase junk food but some people are too lazy to cook at home.
I agree with Mark on this subject because my family and I have recently cut back on junk food and we have come to realize that we still have a little cash left
