Justus Freiherr von Liebig was born in darmstadt into the middle class family of johann georg liebig, and maria caroline möser. In his early years as a child her was fascinated with chemistry. At age 13 a catastrophe hit majority of food crops in the northern hemisphere were destroyed by a volcanic winter. (reduction of global temperatures due to volcanic ash and droplets of sulfuric acid obscuring the sun and raising the earth's albedo increasing the reflection of solar radiation) germany was among the hardest hit in this global famine.
