According to Magno and Piosang (2016), K-12 curriculum is implemented to shape students as a productive and responsible citizen with the skills and competencies to be a life long learner and employment ready. It is in line with the R.A 10533 which states that the curriculum "broaden the goals of High School Education for college preparation, vocational and technical career opportunities as well as creative arts, sports and entrepreneurial employment in a rapidly changing and increasingly globalized environment". Armin Luistro stated that the culture of the Philippines is complicated in a sense that the economy of the 1950s' Philippines was second to Japan but because of the war and corruption, Philippines have been overtook by the different countries after a decade. One main cause of that problem is that Philippines’ educational system did not improve much. He stated that the K-12 program is the concrete solution for this to fix and to move forward in order to achieve success.
Luistro features the focus of the K-12 program is to upgrade the basic education curriculum to ensure that the students become more skillful to their own path of strength to become productive and intelligent part of the society. For the upcoming graduates of K-12, they can choose where they continue in college or for a job because K-12 graduates are skillful enough for the work.
