Chapter 1
Background of the Study Angiogenesis is the growth of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. The field of angiogenesis has grown enormously in the past 30 years, with only 40 papers published in 1980 and nearly 6000 in 2010. Why do you think angiogenesis research grew so fast? Studies show that angiogenic therapies provide a potential to conquer cancer, heart diseases, and more than 70 of life’s most threatening medical conditions. We all know that tumor can really be a serious thing for an embryo. According to the Angiogenesis Foundation, the lives of at least 1 billion people worldwide could be improved with angiogenic therapy. This study will show that kakawate leaves can be a regulator of angiogenesis of a chiken embryo. Why chicken embryo? Among various animal model systems designed to study the mechanisms underlying angiogenesis, chick embryo models have been useful tools in analyzing the angiogenic potential of purified factors and intact cells. Like a human embryo, chicken embryo can also get tumor that’s why the researcher wants to know if a kakawate leaf can be a regulator of angiogenesis because in the future it might be used as a treatment for tumor. Air cells inside of an embryo can help to determine if an egg is fertile or not. With the help of identifying the air cells of the eggs the researcher can also identify if the kakawate leaves regulate the angiogenesis inside. If an egg is fertile there can be a possibility that it is angiogenesis free. According to the Department of Surgery, Children 's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, Angiogenesis
