Katniss And Prometheus Similarities
Many mythological beings share similarities with modern characters in literature. Prometheus is no exception. Katniss is very much like Prometheus in many ways. One such similarity is that both of these characters are related to fire. Prometheus steals fire from Zeus to give to the humans on earth to help them survive and Katniss is shown as being the “girl on fire”. The fire for Prometheus is showing that he is a kind person who will do whatever it takes to help others. Katniss being depicted as the fire is showing that she is fierce and a force to be reckoned with. The physical fire is similar between these two but there is also the spark of rebellion in both Prometheus and Katniss. Prometheus stole the flame from Zeus even though he was

He knew that it would be a risk to take the fire but he was determined that “mankind would fire, despite what Zeus had decided”. Katniss had multiple acts of rebellion against the capitol but the main act during the Hunger Games was when she and Peeta faked their double suicide. Katniss did this in hopes that the Gamemakers would let both her and Peeta win the Hunger Games. This made the capitol look silly and President Snow saw Katniss as an enemy after that point. Katniss faced the consequences of her actions by constantly having to choose her words wisely and by having the capitol away trying to find a reason to kill and torture her. Both Prometheus and Katniss were trying to protect people by their acts of rebellion. When Prometheus brought the fire to the human race they were overjoyed and they “thanked Prometheus for the wonderful gift he had brought to them”. When Katniss teamed up with Rue in the Hunger Games and placed flowers around her dead body (another act of rebellion toward the capitol) the people of District 11 thanked her by sending her bread.
