When we look at patients, patients will pursue to ensure that they receive the best care possible, from the best hospital, and from the best physician but the limitation of their insurance coverage will stand in their way. Physicians wants to provide what they believe to be the best course of action to patient’s diagnosis. But physicians are limited to the standards of care set by their institution. An evidence of physician’s limitation, “In most states, medical boards require physicians to avoid false, misleading, or untrue statements when engaging in advertising.” (Adler, 2012). Hospitals vision on positive patient outcome is limited to the governing body that tackles their reimbursements. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid as well as The Joint Commission are governing body that oversees the performance of different institution. Ensuring that hospital adhere to current Evidence Based Research and standards is their primary role. Hospitals that does not adhere to both this governing body can result in decrease reimbursement which can lead to bankruptcy. The Payors, depending on which institution is paying for the patient care, their secondary vision to positive patient care might be different. Medicare and Commercial insurance serves two different patient groups. Medicare serves patients that have complex and costly medical conditions while Commercial Insurance primary goal is to protect their business interest and avoid any costly medical expenses (Archer & Marmor, 2012).
