1) Introduction: Hook: Anorexia is complex disorder and is thought to be caused by a complex constellation of biological, psychological, and environmental factors. Thesis statement: Although the exact causes of anorexia in males are unknown, there are some things that may increase the risk for developing the eating disorder such as genes, psychiatric and family relationship conflicts.
2) Body:
A. There is recent research that suggests that our genes may play a part in developing an eating disorder. a. It is hard to say how much of an impact genes have in developing an eating disorder, because it is hard to separate genetic factors and environmental influences. b. As prominent genetic researcher Cynthia Bulik once said, "Genes load the gun and environment pulls the trigger.”
B. Eating disorders frequently occur together with other psychiatric illness such as depression, substance abuse, or anxiety disorders. a. Many people with eating disorders suffer from low self-esteem, feelings of helplessness, and intense dissatisfaction with the way they look.
C. Family relationships play one role in the causes of eating disorders.
a. Poor parenting by both mothers and fathers has been implicated in eating disorders.
